Literary Buffalo News
Congratulations to the winners of the 3rd Annual Just Buffalo Member Writing Contest!
The Jury Prize, chosen by Ansie Baird, went to Juliette Merrolla for her poem, "Landings."
The Audience Prize was a two way tie between John Lazear Okrent, for his poem, "New Year's Poem," and Richard K. Olson, for his poem, "A Chance of Rain."
Look for all three poems to appear in Artvoice in the coming weeks.
Thanks to everyone who participated and special thanks to Ansie Baird for lending her time and expertise to the the judging.

We at Just Buffalo were sad to learn of the passing of two friends last week.
Playwright and Union Organizer Manny Fried, who received the Just Buffalo Literary Legacy award in 2009, died at the age of 97. There are some extraordinary lives that earn the moniker "life force" for their passionate intensity. Manny Fried claims a place one step higher on that ladder. He was a "force of nature." Anyone who every met him or worked with him or saw him perform will understand the distinction. Farewell, Manny!
Buffalo News Obit of Manny Fried
Our friend, poet Akilah Oliver, also passed away last week at the too-young age of 49. Akilah was scheduled to be our featured reader for Big Night in April. We had been working on bringing her to Buffalo for the past year and half and were finally on the verge of making it happen when we heard the news. She will be missed.
Belladonna Press info on Akilah Oliver
The April Big Night will be rescheduled soon and will include a brief reading of some of Akilah's poems.
