Facebook Town Hall provides two-way dialogue with community

Post town hall meetings to expand to Facebook

We are excited to bring you Fort Benning's first  'Facebook Town Hall' today, Jan. 12th at 6:30 p.m. right here on Fort Benning's Official Facebook page!

Fort Benning's Garrison Commader Col. Tom Macdonald and representatives from across the installation will be on hand to answer questions you might have about this great place we call home.

So...what kind of things are we going to talk about?

Living on Fort Benning, Moving, PCsing, Youth Services, Elementary & Middle Schools, Local Area, What's up with Dixie Road?, Housing, How to put in a work order to get something fixed in your house, Places to get information online, traffic, construction, Armor School updates, etc.

So...how is this going to work?

At 6:30 p.m. we will post the first message welcoming everyone to the town hall (think Tuesday Trivia). COL Macdonald will then invite you to ask a question, post a concern or compliment by hitting 'comment'. Please DO NOT POST QUESTIONS TO THE WALL. Only post your question, concern or compliment by hitting 'comment' on COL Macdonald's original post.

A very key thing to remember...

Fort Benning's Leadership cares deeply about providing our Army Soldiers and Families with the best quality of life possible. However, they also know that we've had problems or challenges along the way. We want to use this forum as a way to turn those challenges into positives. Please let us know if something is frustrating you, but please try to do it in a constructive way.

Conversation screening....

Remember that this is our first time using Facebook for a forum like this. There is a good chance that we may get a lot of folks joining in on the conversation. So we may have to remove comments or posts that are not relevant or are redundant or germane to the discussion. This does not mean we will censor; it means we will screen the conversations to maximize the value of the discussion.

Our Leaders recognize that our Soldiers and Families are very busy and that their time after work is very important.  We think that this will be a  convenient way to get information to them, and we hope that you can join us.

NIM presents Baker Boys: Inside the Surge documentary

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier center is proud to host the local premiere of Baker Boys: Inside the Surge.  This documentary offers an intimate, inside look at Baker Company, an elite group of Army soldiers on an extended tour in Iraq as they 'surge' into a notoriously dangerous Al Qaeda stronghold.

Join world-renowned journalist Jon Steele, director Kern Konwiser and several soldiers featured in the film now stationed at Fort Benning for this IMAX Theatre screening over two nights.  There will be Q&A sessions as well as a chance to meet the filmmakers and soldiers after the shows.

Parts one and two (running 100 minutes) will be held on January 19 at 7:00 pm. Parts three and four (100 minutes) will be January 20 at 7:00 pm. You may attend either or both nights. Tickets for each night may be picked up at the box office in advance or on the day of the screening subject to availability. Tickets are free but a donation of $5 is suggested.

As this is a free event targeting the Fort Benning community, any assistance in reaching that audience would be greatly appreciated, via Facebook or any other means you deem appropriate.  You can see more details about the event here: http://www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com/?page_id=3635

DFMWR

Taking care of the best military community in the Army!

 Upcoming DFMWR events:

_________________________________________

The Army Family Action Plan symposium will be held at the Benning

Conference Center Jan. 25-27.  AFAP is an Armywide initiative to improve the

quality of life for Soldiers and their families. It is a process whereby we

identify critical issues concerning welfare and morale and present them to

senior Army leadership for resolution. The process starts at the

installation, where volunteer delegates are assigned to working groups to

review issues, suggestions and concerns submitted for consideration by

members of the community. Delegates include Soldiers, National Guardsmen and

Reservists, military retirees, family members and Department of the Army

civilian employees.

Some issues will be resolved at the local level, and some will be

forwarded to Forces Command and/or Training and Doctrine Command. Issues not

resolved at FORSCOM or TRADOC may be sent to Headquarters Department of

Army, where they will be worked by the AFAP General Officer Steering

Committee. Since AFAP's inception in 1983, the process has resulted in more

than 117 legislative changes, 162 Department of Defense or Army policy

changes and 178 new or improved programs and services. To volunteer, please

call 706-545-2794.
