From the Top
October 8, 2009
The Maneuver Center is building warriors and developing leaders who are willing and able to think and act creatively and decisively in a changing world. We train 115,000 agile, adaptive Soldiers each year, and that number will grow by about 30,000 in the next couple of years. We are currently in the middle of a $3.5 billion BRAC build-up, and we're pumping about $1.1 billion into local economies each year. Right now, we have $350 million worth of contracts underway.
It's an exciting time to be a part of the Fort Benning community. It's important to remember that during this period of transformation and development, we cannot afford to lose sight of our primary mission: to train adaptive Soldiers and Leaders who will see us through this current conflict and stand up tomorrow as leaders and pillars in our communities.
One Force, One Fight!

Fighting the flu with fist bumps
For the workplace, the most common form of spreading germs through contact is via handshake. A handshake usually signals agreement or acquaintance, or it can function as a professional way to say hello or goodbye. In ancient times, it meant you weren't concealing a weapon in your hand.
But since we're now almost a decade into the 21st century, I think it's time for a change, time to catch up with the hygiene-conscious modern era.
With specks of paint dotting the side of his face, SPC David Tuiteleleapaga could do nothing but laugh when he was the first Soldier eliminated during a second round of paintball Sept. 29 with troops from the 988th Military Police Company.
A few minutes later, the rest of Tuiteleleapaga's team was defeated and they marched out of the woods at Fort Benning's Woodlands Paintball Area covered in orange and purple paint. Despite losing for the second time in a row against the red team, the yellow team was all smiles.

On the eve of a fourth deployment to Iraq in seven years, the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team cased its colors Wednesday at Kelley Hill's Sledgehammer Field.
Just 16 months removed from its last homecoming, the unit is sending 3,600 Soldiers into five provinces south of Baghdad. About 700 Soldiers took part in the 30-minute casing ceremony.
"You're in the presence of history ... because you live it so often," MG Tony Cucolo, the 3rd Infantry Division's commanding general, told the crowd. "I hope the Army knows how lucky she is to have Soldiers like the ones in formation before us ... This 3rd (Heavy) Brigade Combat Team is one hard outfit."

Fort Benning's new $333 million hospital will be an architectural icon that incorporates the latest technological advances in medical facilities and equipment and elevates the quality of life for Soldiers, veterans and their families, the project's resident engineer said.
Alan Bugg, who represents the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said the design improves accessibility for patients and staff by cutting down on the time it takes to park and enter the building.

Four consecutive horrific "accidents" left bloody bodies of 6th Ranger Training Battalion Soldiers strewn all over the Eglin ranges Oct 1.
That was just part of the 6th RTB's annual mass-casualty exercise to examine how effective the battalion responds as a group and how well it communicates and works with outside emergency agencies in the event of a catastrophe on the range.
