The Matin family at the 4572 Kingston Road Groundbreaking |
The Matin children are bringing home better grades to help build their new Habitat Toronto home by earning "sweat equity" as a way to contribute to their parents' partnership with Habitat Toronto. Everyone in the Matin family is looking forward to having a safe and decent home that has plenty of space for studying and playing. "Right now our life is very difficult," Merajuddin explains. "We're six people living in a small, two-bedroom apartment. Our children can't study or sleep properly because of the overcrowding."
Like their children, Merajuddin and his wife, Saiedah, aren't just moving into a new home - they're helping build one. "We're involved in each stage of the homebuilding process with Habitat Toronto. I love dedicating my time to activities that help build affordable homes for low-income families." For the Matin family, a new home means more than a brighter future for their children. It's a new start for other families just like them. "Home is a place where you live comfortably and safely. It's a place you enjoy filling with family and friends."

| Crew Leader Corner | |
After a recent career change, Bill Monaghan's wife Laurie urged him to get out and make good use of his time. A little tentative of what he would be asked to do, Bill signed up for one day at the ReTooloing Blitz Build. After a day of framing, Bill knew he was hooked and immediately signed up for more volunteer days. Bill began Crew Leading at 4572 Kingston Road five days a week. While looking for a new job, he has made volunteering his full-time commitment.
