Greetings!

Autumn is here and, hopefully, the last of the hurricane's are behind us. I certainly hope all of my readers didn't suffer too badly with any losses of roofs and trees. Unless you are fortunate to have a generator, I'm sure you suffered without electricity for at least a few days. We didn't have power for two days and no cable for a week. A very large tree uprooted but luckily didn't damage anything.

Is It Time To Finally Create A Place For You?

As the weather gets cooler, it's time to move our focus inside.  Store all of the outdoor furniture, and think about creating that cozy sanctuary for yourself.

I recently had a client that decided to do just that!  They first explored the possibility of moving to a larger home. But, like many decided to stay put and expand their existing home.  Their children were teenagers, and the parents wanted a sanctuary of their own.  So the roof was raised, and the attic space became a Master Bedroom suite - bedroom, bath and sitting room.

The space for the master bath was laid out and two new windows added.

As a part of the Master Bathroom retreat, a Bain Ultra Thermal Tub was installed, complete with heated backrest and headrest. Can't you just imagine slipping into this warm tub, with the air bubble jets gently soothing your muscles and reducing your stress! A curved wood panel framed the tub.

A double vanity was installed opposite the bathing area.

The double vanity provided room for his/her sinks.  Counter top of Pistachio limestone with an ogee edge offset the Acadia White vanity.  An armoire was also built to house towels and extra bath items.

A knee wall was built separating the shower and tub area with glass extending half way up the wall to allow light into the shower.

Slate tile was installed on the shower walls accented with mosaic tiles in a range of rust, blue and greens.  A shower seat provides the opportunity for a leisurely shower.

Ask the Designer
Q: I really enjoyed your newsletter about landscaping. Now that Fall is approaching, what should I do to prepare for winter?

A: I am so pleased that you enjoyed reading my article on landscaping.  For those that missed it, it is archived on my website www.susanmaroccointeriors.com. You can click here to read the article, "First Impressions - You only get one chance."

To answer your question, I consulted with Landscape Architect, Miriam Yekutiel, the owner of Green Surrounding. Her recommendations, besides protecting your landscape from the deer, were to prune your shrubbery one last time before the weather gets cold and to plant your daffodil and tulip bulbs.

You can contact Miriam at 914-879-1319 or visit her website www.GreenSurrounding.com.
