April 2010

Greetings!

Happy Spring! The forsythia is blooming, the daffodils have come up and the birds are chirping!

After a long winter are you longing for a place to escape, relax and rejuvenate? This month we will feature 5 steps you can take to transform your bathroom into a luxurious retreat.

How To Create your Bath Refuge
Longing for a place to escape, relax and rejuvenate?

Here are 5 Steps to transform your bathroom into a refuge.

1. Fireplaces
Don't underestimate the hypnotic power of a fireplace. Experience the serenity of fire without the need of a flue, chimney, fake logs, soot or ashes. Just enjoy the flames!

2. Towel Warmers
Wrap yourself up in a toasty heated towel. Options to choose from include the more common heated towel bars or towel drawers.

3. Bring in the TVs!
Install an LCD TV which looks like a mirror until you turn it on. Watch your favorite TV show as you soak in the Jacuzzi; or catch the latest news as you get ready in the morning.

4. Warm Floors
Do you hate walking on the cold bathroom floor in the winter?  Install radiant-heated floors to replace old radiators.

5. Invigorate yourself
Wall jets installed in your shower can give you a full body massage, soft or pulsating.

Ask the Designer
What are your favorite items that will make a room more appealing and pulled together?

The top four items I incorporate into my design projects are:

1.   The right paint color.
2.   Good lighting.  Not just overhead, but task lighting; a good reading lamp, and ambient lighting such as sconces.
3.   Architectural details, this addition can really transform any room.
4.   A focal point.  A special piece that speaks to you; furniture, artwork or accessories.

Each month we feature a question in the Ask the Designer section.  If you have a question you want answered, please submit your question to Susan.
