Dearest Family and Friends,
Late Tuesday evening (Feb 22) I received a call that Samuel's dad had passed away of a sudden heart attack. Although we knew Don Quiko's (Fransisco David Luna) health was fragile, and he was ready to meet with Jesus, this news came as a real shock. I (Kendra) had just returned from Haiti a week earlier and Samuel had traveled to Washington State to share in several churches. In the Dominican context, usually burial happens within 24 hours. Through special arrangements, they were able to wait 48 hours for the burial and that gave time for Samuel, and his brother Joel, to arrive from the US for the funeral.

Fransisco's life was marked by his love for Jesus, his example of humble service, and his kind and loving heart. At 21 years of age, he was the first to believe in Jesus Christ in his family of origin of 12 siblings. His conversion and discipleship was the fruit of working along side of missionaries. His faith represents a turn-around in his generation and he leaves a legacy of 5 children and 11 grandchildren who love and follow Jesus Christ.

A memorial service in Fransisco's honor will be held in Santiago this Sunday March 6th at 3PM. Please pray for...
1.) Carmen (Samuel's Mom) in this time of loss. She faithfully attended to all of Quiko's physical and medical needs through 30 years of diabetes. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in December.
2.) Keila's (Samuel's sister) daughter Chanel (3 yrs old) who has been hospitalized for a couple of days due to dehydration as a result of vomiting. Please pray for Chanel's quick recovery so the whole family can participate in the memorial service.
3.) A brother of Quiko's named Jose-Amado who is critically ill on life support.
4.) That Jesus name will be exalted through the memorial service on Sunday.
I will send a Haiti update next week. I had recently returned from 3 weeks in Haiti where I had very limited internet access. Please forgive the lapse in communication. I was just starting to write a Haiti ministry update the day Samuel's dad died. Thank-you for your prayers for the Haiti project - God is moving in amazing ways!
