Dear Family and Friends,
Would you please especially pray for us over the next ten days? Today, we (NET Nacion En Transformacion) conclude a three-day spiritual formation retreat where we have hosted 21 pastors and ministry leaders from different locations throughout the Dominican Rep. Alan Fadling, from the Leadership Institute in California, has been here teaching and helping us facilitate this experience. It has been wonderful to see how God has encouraged and refilled these leaders as they come into His presence.
Please pray for Kendra as she leaves this afternoon to drive to Haiti - Floyd (our van) is packed full with oral rehydration packets, medications, IV solutions, 100 pounds of powder bleach, etc. Today, I (Kendra) leave on my journey toward Haiti. I will pick-up my dad, Marty Trepus, at the airport in the Dominican capitol city of Santo Domingo. We will drive part way to Port-au-Prince this evening and continue our trip early tomorrow. Samuel will be home with our boys as they are in school. He continues with NET's ministry in Jarabacoa.
Although there are many cases of cholera in the camps all around our camp, thank the Lord that we know of no cases in the Delmas 6 camp! If you could see the horrific sanitation situation you would understand that this is nothing short of God's grace!
Continue to Pray with us:
1.) That the people of the Delmas 6 refugee camp would come to know Jesus.
2.) A sense of God's Hope and destiny for the Haitian people. Elections were held last Sunday. There have been allegations of fraud and a general sense of discontent and desperation. With a million people still displaced, the majority having poor sanitation, deteriorating tents and little availible land to move to. When you add cholera, rain storms and indifferent political leadership, people's sense of hope and future wanes.
3.) For safe travels to and around Port-au-Prince. There have been some demonstrations after the elections.
5.) Pray for us as we meet with the Mayor of Croix-de-Bouquet on Friday. He is a believer and he committed to donate 1/2 carreau of land for relocating families. Pray that he would give us good land and expedite the process so we can start moving the families from the Delmas 6 camp immediately.
6.) Pray for us as we meet with the owner of the land where the camp is currently located at Delmas 6. We have not been able to meet his extended December 1st deadline. (Which he set for moving the people off his land.) Pray that he would be gracious and cooperative and once again give us time to work on the process of moving 1000 people!
7.) Pray as we meet with Samaritan's Purse who committed to donate materials for 200 temporary shelters. The whole plan to move off the current land is based on this generous donation and commitment. We have a team from YWAM Port-au-Prince that is in the country for a limited time and waiting to help with the construction of the Samaritan's Purse shelters. HOWEVER, Samaritan's Purse has temporarily halted all temporary shelter donations in order to build medical units to isolate cholera patients. This is a necessary response to the present cholera emergency. Please pray that some sort of solution can be worked out to simultaneously meet both needs!
8.) Pray for the medical and health needs of the Delmas 6 camp. Pray that the Lord would provide a medical team to do a clinic in the camp and that the camp would stay free of cholera.
7.) Pray for Samuel as he is home with the boys. Pray for our family as we balance life with the on-going ministry in the Dominican Rep as well as the situation in Haiti. We are thankful for the generosity of some family members who made it possible for us to attend a family Christmas gathering in Florida. *** If you would like to respond to the need of relocating the Delmas 6 camp or purchasing needed medications and supplies; please drop us a quick e-mail at kendra.luna5@gmail.com If you would like to help with this need you can send your tax-deductible gift to: Davison Free Methodist Church, 502 Church St Davison MI 48423. 4.) Our health and protection from cholera and other illnesses while in Haiti.
