Dear Family and Friends,
*** URGENT - PLEASE PRAY*** Since I began this update, Cholera has broken out in Haiti. Presently, there are close to 200 deaths and probably the number is higher. Cholera can become deadly in as few as 24-48 hours. Before learning of this, I was planning to drive our van back to Haiti early Monday morning. I will be traveling with a Haitian physician, Carl Thompson and a translator. With the new Cholera outbreak, I know there will be tremendous needs for certain medications and supplies. Pray for me today for wisdom and provision as I quickly try to procure some needed medical supplies. If you would like to respond to this need with a financial gift to purchase needed medications and supplies; please drop us a quick e-mail at kendra.luna5@gmail.com If you would like to help with this need you can send your tax-deductible gift to: Davison Free Methodist Church, 502 Church St Davison MI 48423. You should attach a note that says "Haiti Relief."
We want to thank you for praying for our family and the minstry in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. I apologize for not keeping you informed more frequently. During September, I (Kendra) was in Haiti three of four weeks without Internet. The first half of October has consisted of abundant 7th grade homework reinforcement, hosting a wonderful team from Stateline Community Church in Oregon, and assisting Samuel with some exciting new developments with NET (Nacion En Transformacion).
Here is an update on some of the ways things are developing in Haiti.

You can see more pictures of the refugee camp clicking above. a.) With the expert guidance of Richard Osborne, my dad (Marty Trepus) and I constructed two sample houses made out of Styrofoam with a metal shell. This is a long-term solution for homes and schools that has potential to help Haiti re-build. If assembled correctly, this construction meets Florida's newer hurricane building codes and has been tested with 130 mph winds. The panels are light-weight so they are much safer in case of another earthquake. Because the roof is highly insulated these structures are also much cooler.

We are establishing strategic alliances with a division of the United Nations called the International Organization of Migration, (IOM) with Youth With a Mission Port-au-Prince and with an organization called HELP.
c.) I met with the owner of the land where the camp is located. I know you were praying, because he extended the Sept 30th deadline for the refugees vacating his land.
d.) We received 40 tents from IOM (a division of the United Nations) to be used for relocating families who can move near friends in other locations. We have relocated 9 families. Please pray for this process as I return to the Delmas 6 refugee camp Monday to provide continuity. e.) After a small "demonstration/riot" in the camp provoked by the man (he calls himself a pastor) who has continually been stirring up problems; it was necessary for me to call the United Nations police. I received a special "escort" from the camp to where I was staying. (I haven't had much military experience but in my estimation they had lots of "fire power".) Through the whole experience I had a deep peace, and assurance that the Lord was with me. Peterson (director of YWAM PAP) had shared that morning on Psalms 37 about the battle between darkness and light. After going to court, the judged ruled completely in our favor issuing a warning to this "Pastor of Darkness" that he would go straight to prison at the next hint of trouble. Please continue to pray as I return to face this situation. |
