Luna Update - Aug 27, 2010
                                                    from: Samuel & Kendra Luna
Greetings!

After spending some time thinking in the night, I was challenged as I read from the devotional book "Streams in the Desert" by LB Cowman.  The emphasis was on how Abraham "obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going"  (Hebrews 11:8)  Cowman says, "This is faith without sight.  Seeing is not faith but reasoning...It is our first step of faith that turns the key in the lock of His powerhouse.  It is true that God helps those who help themselves, but He also helps those who are helpless.  So no matter what your circumstances, you can depend on him every time.  Waiting on God brings us to the end of our journey much faster than our feet."

I (Kendra) am at one of those moments where I don't "see" what God's answers are for the precious families we have been working with in the Delmas 6 refugee camp in Port-au-Prince.  Last night, we learned that the owner of the land where the Delmas 6 refugee camp is located wants his land cleared of people and tents within the next 2 months!   To further complicate the situation, Prisca, who is bi-lingual and a key Christian leader in our camp coordination committee has had to move out of town!  Through the night the questions to the Lord were flowing - Where will these who have already lost everything go?  - What will I say to the owner of the land who wants to meet with me? - Have the people had a chance to not only receive tangible help but hear of the hope Jesus can bring to their lives?  I reminded the Lord that early tomorrow morning, my dad and I leave for 9 days in Haiti.  Certainly some of these questions I should have answers to before we cross the border!  As I read the words in "Streams in the Desert" I was reminded that faith is sometimes more about blind obedience, walking without seeing, and waiting - than it is about a detailed action plan.

Please Pray with us for...

1.) Protection for Kendra and her dad Marty Trepus as they drive 14 hours tomorrow to Port-au-Prince.  Safety and health for their time in Haiti through Sept 6th.

2.) Encouragement for Samuel as he stays with the boys in the Dom Rep and helps the boys in the start of their new school year.

3.)  Direction and wisdom for Kendra & Marty as they meet with the land owner and the camp leadership committee to determine what the next steps should be.

4.)  Land to relocate the families in the camp.  Kendra will try to schedule a meeting with the director of United Nations department of camp management.  Pray for contacts with other organizations that have experience with this and may be able to partner with us in this transition.

5.)  Pray for us as we learn about, and assist in the assembly of, the initial 2 styrofoam houses.  This summer, we met Richard and Larry Orborne who have designed and shipped these foam pre-fab house parts from Florida for assembly in Port-au-Prince.  We are excited about the potential these structures have to relieve Haiti's shelter crisis.  They are relatively economical, light weight, heat insulated and wind resistant.

6.) Praise the Lord that the 225 mattresses for refugees (100 for Free Methodist needy families and 125 for the Delmas 6 refugee camp) are finally being delivered today! I have had this delivery set up 4 times since June and run into a snag each time - Thank the Lord - today, it is finally happening!

7.)  Pray for Samuel as he follows up with the youth and leaders of the 6 Bison Clubs in Jarabacoa.  On Saturday Aug 21, he led a camp with 110 kids and 15 adults of NET's (Nacion En Transformacion) Bison Clubs.  They went to Santiago to the zoo and 2 museums.  This was the first time many of these children had ever been out of our mountain town of Jarabacoa!  What an adventure!
