Kendra is safely home from Haiti and making preparations to return. Samuel is continuing to deliver trucks of water (4th trip) to refugee camps in Haiti. Kendra is preparing a report on her experiences in Haiti including some pictures which she plans to send you later today.
If you live in the Davison or Spring Arbor Michigan area and are collecting antibiotics to be sent directly to Haiti, please have them to the drop off locations by tomorrow, Thursday, Jan 28th. Contrary to previous reports WE CAN TAKE OPENED PARTIALLY USED ANTIBIOTICS & PAIN MEDICATIONS. Even if a person's name is on the prescription bottle, as long as the correct medication and dosage is listed, these meds can be useful in Haiti. We have new information that due to the Haiti crisis, these "used medications" can be taken into Haiti through the DR. The drop-off locations are the Davison Free Methodist Church or Brent & Linda Smith at 3134 Daggett Dr in Spring Arbor.
Through the N.E.T. "Haiti Relief" funds you have sent, we were able to purchase 6 different types of antibiotics, strong pain medications, IV solutions, casting materials, dressings, & gauze. These were sent to the Dessalines Hospital where a trauma team was ready to put them into use immediately.
We have received a response from the "Double Harvest" ministry & hospital just outside PAP that "they had received the 5500 gallons of diesel fuel" that Samuel was able to make arrangements for the purchase & delivery of, from the DR. They were extremely grateful, since now their hospital generators & lights could continue to run.
Samuel is working very hard to keep the water trucks moving in and out of Haiti with a thousand of gallons of water. The plan has to be continually refined to get the pure drinking water to the most thirsty people possible. Dehydration continues to be an acute problem. As other water services become available to some refugee camps, God has directed Sami to others in desperate need of water. The plan is to continue to exchange 5 gallon jugs of water for empty ones twice a week for up to three months in Haiti refugee camps.
We want to recognize and thank the many people and several churches who are supporting this "Renewable Haiti Water Project." The Community Restoration Church in the Dominican, the Dominican Free Methodist Conference, and the Davison Michigan FM Church have been joined by the Petersburg Alaska Bible Church, and several others, along with many N.E.T. supporters. Continued support of this project is needed.
Kendra will be working with a VISA response team from the Spring Arbor FM Church in Haiti from Feb 1 - 13th. Please pray for her as she tries to support this team in it's response to the needs of the Haitian Free Methodist church people.
We also want to thank those of you who are forwarding these e-mails on to friends. This expands our prayer and interest support in behalf of the hurting Haitian people. If anyone wishes to be added to the Lunas' e-mail list directly, please let me know.
Last night it rained here in the DR, and I was reminded how important it is for "NO RAIN" to fall on PAP Haiti. Please pray that it does not rain on the other end of this island (Haiti)!! Also pray that the refugees can get plastic tarps & tents to replace their current "sheet" structures. We will try to respond to this need as we are able.
I am praying that Psalms 34:17 will be true for Dominican Christians. "The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles."
Cheryl Trepus (Kendra's mom)
