Greetings!

Let me share a verse that has been a source of hope and strength to me in recent days.  "Now glory be to God!  By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we could ever dare to ask or hope." (Eph 3:20)

moving truck We recently completed our 3rd move in a year!  After several months of searching, the Lord provided a different home, in Jarabacoa, for us to rent.  Thank-you for praying!

The location of our new home is great!  It is situated in a secure area between our church and the boys school.  The house itself has taken an amazing amount of work, finances and effort to become functional.  We ended up using 45 gallons of paint to cover the interior walls that were previously a dark color.  We battled a plague of thousands of small cockroaches left behind by the previous family living in the house. (Believe me - I made sure we won that battle!)  The lower level of our home has flooded 3 times.  The plumbing in the toilets and sinks had to be totally reworked.  It has taken 2 months and 7 visits from the phone company to get our Internet functioning.  (Please forgive our lack of recent communication.)  The good news is - our systems seem to be functioning better by the day!

Joseph family in front of waterfallsMy sister Kristi, and her family, came to visit in June.  We learned of the new house becoming available to rent the day before they arrived. We continued our plan to work at the Monte Bonito children's ministry.  After a quick trip to the beach, the whole Joseph family graciously helped us begin the moving process!moving truck    Andersen & Carly on Horse

Samuel has lead 3 solitude retreats at a local Trappist Monastery where he invited small groups of Pastors.  This has been a great opportunity for reflection and a  refreshing experience for the Pastors.

Journey group photoTwo years ago, Samuel and I were graciously granted a scholarship to participate in "The Journey".  "The Journey" is a two year, six-retreat process, which integrates spiritual formation with discipleship and leadership development.  We just completed our 6th and final journey retreat.  Samuel graduated with a certificate in spiritual formation/direction (I, Kendra, am working on completing some of the exercises and reading so I can finish as well!)  "The Journey" has been deeply transformational for both of us.  This community (pictured above) of fellow pastors has helped us process the question of how we can nurture spirituality amidst the sometimes overwhelming pressures of ministry.  We are keenly aware that the kind of transformation God is calling us to initiate in the Dominican Republic can only happen when we exchange a hectic and hurried life-style for a rhythm of life which is defined by solitude, prayer, community and deep companionship with God.  If you are interesting in more information on "The Journey" their web site is  www.tli.cc  (The Leadership Institute).

PLEASE  PRAY:

1.)  Pray for us as we seek to implement a healthy rhythm of life which prioritizes the unhurried time and space alone with God that we need to grow in a contemplative relationship-centered transformational ministry.  We desire to do ministry from overflow rather than leakage!

2.)  We are organizing and facilitating retreats for 3 different groups over the week of Nov 13-20.  (Nov 13-14 Missionaries, Nov 16-18 Supervising Pastors, Nov 18-20 Pastors and Church Leaders)  Alan Fadling, a good friend of ours, is the director of  the Leadership Institute.  He and his wife Gem were our mentors in "The Journey."  Alan will be coming from California to help us facilitate these retreats.

Please pray that the Lord would guide us in the preparations.  Communication and promotion is challenging.  The Dominican Republic offers no efficient mail system and the majority of the pastors do not have regular Internet access.  Pray that pastors with open and seeking hearts will attend.  Also, pray for financial provision for every pastor and missionary that desires to attend.  This is the first time we have ever lead anything quite like this so we are counting on your partnership in prayer!

3.) Please pray for financial provision for our family and ministry.

4.) A team from Sandstone Congregational Church will arrive on November 20th.  We are thankful for their willingness to spend Thanksgiving week serving others!  They will be working in the mountain village of La Cienega.  Please pray for their safety and effectiveness.
