In December, we moved back to the Dominican Republic and got the boys settled into school. Our house and vehicles needed lots of fixing in order to become functional! In spite of readjusting to intermittent electricity and a significant increase in cost of living, we each enjoy a deep sense of peace and assurance that we are just where God has called us to be. We also enjoyed a Christmas visit from Kendra's Uncle Paul and Aunt Sharon from Washington State. |
| February 2009 |
In February, Dr. Jeff Johnson (Kendra's superintendent) came to speak at a large gathering of FM pastors and preach in local churches. God's Spirit was POWERFUL and PRESENT! On Friday February 27th, I (Kendra) translated Jeff's message to 840 FM church leaders. His sermon was on our need to exercise our faith or lose it. At the end of the message, 360 leaders came forward requesting prayer for struggles with their Faith. Samuel translated 2 teachings on Saturday on generational blessings and prayer. On Sunday Morning, we ministered in a church of about 200 people and the message was on secret things that displease God. 140 people stood to confess secret sin and 4 people received Christ for the first time. The Pastor dismissed the service and the people just sat there not wanting to leave. One by one, 11 individuals (including the pastor) came forward with public confessions of sin. On Sunday evening, Pastor Jeff preached in our local church here in Jarabacoa. The message was on grace and judgment. With 340 people present, 70 people stood admitting that they wanted to exchange their stones of judgment for God's grace. One young lady named Rosel accepted Christ into her heart. God is good! |
| Paso Bajito |
|
We have been working through some changes in local leadership in the ministry in Paso Bajito. Tony and Ivelisse (pictured above with their children) were former students of ours in the Discipleship Training School. They responded to God's calling and moved their family to the remote mountainous village of Paso Bajito in April 2008. Many young people have come to know the Lord. This dynamic young couple has been key in discipleship and providing organizational structure. Please pray with us that the Lord would give them strength and wisdom as there have been some strong spiritual opposition that they have had to face. |

Samuel is encouraged by how the ministry of NET (Nation in Transformation) is growing. There are 17 women/families who have started small businesses through NET's micro-loans. These women have been responsible & faithful in meeting their repayment obligations on time. There are five "Bison Clubs" working with children and youth that continue to effectively impact young lives. On June 6th we will initiate a new Bison club in Paso Bajito. NET has acquired a house that serves as an office and retreat center.

April 2009 |

In April, a team came from Davison Free Methodist Church in Michigan. One of the young team members accepted Jesus Christ into her heart! We did children's ministry, built bunk beds for the NET ministry center, painted in Paso Bajito, and put a third story on Monte Bonito Free Methodist Church in Santiago (with Pastors Pedro & Victoria Vanderlinder). |

Left - Monte Bonito Pastors Pedro & Victoria and their sons minister in the desperately poor urban barrio of Monte Bonito near the Santiago city dump. They have a weekly ministry to 180 children and their families. Many youth have been healed from addictions and abuse through their extension of God's love & care.
Right - Third floor construction in cooperation with Davison Free Methodist church. |

No one ever told me that it's not smart to stand directly under your roller when you paint a high ceiling with an extension roller soaked in oil base paint! Those things can come off the pole!
Should I wash my face with paint thinner or wear it off? |
| PRAYER REQUEST |
|
Please pray that the Lord would help us find a suitable home to rent! (Or that our current house owners would change his mind about needing his house back) The week we finished unpacking and repairing our house, the owner called and said he wants to move back into his house. We have been searching Jarabacoa and we have not found anything within our budget. We need something that will meet our family's needs plus office space and guest quarters. Pray for patience and grace especially for our children as this will be their third major move in less than a year. |
