Equipment Spotlight! By Tom Runyon |
Seedburo Stowage Exam Camera System
How do you reduce the time your workers are on top of rail cars? Seedburo Equipment Company has put together a camera system package for the purpose of providing Stowage Exam Inspections for railcar loading facilities without the inspector going up on the railcar. By keeping official inspection personnel off the rail car, we feel that you could reduce your workmen compensation issues and may indeed reduce the overall time for loading cars. What this means for you is reduced costs in loading railcars. USDA-GIPSA/FGIS has issued Program Notice # FGIS-PN-09-03, which provides guidelines on the use of closed circuit camera / monitor packages. The proper selection of camera, lighting system, monitors and installation makes for a system which meets the USDA - GIPSA / FGIS requirements for Stowage Exam. The package includes the properly selected outdoor color camera(s), an LCD monitor w/ universal mount, proper cable and high intensity spotlight fixtures. All have been selected for use in outside environments and durable life. Most common installations would be on the Fall Restraint channel iron above railcars. Since this equipment is required for all loading installations, this channel iron is in the best mounting position. The location of the system in your facility may vary in actual mounting positions of the cameras and the location of the monitor, therefore this decision will be determined by your facility. The installation and wiring would be left to your own maintenance staff or contracted electrician. Please contact our sales staff for more information or a quote on this system. Best result: Fewer people on top of rail cars! |

4-H Flag Heads Into Space Hoosier Ag Today - Gary Truitt 07/16/2009
The National 4-H flag was carried into space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour yesterday as part of the STS-127 mission. The flag, featuring the familiar 4-H clover, was originally scheduled to head into space earlier this year, but was delayed a record five times before finally lifting off this week.
"The inclusion of the 4-H flag on this mission reflects the commitment 4-H has to building young leaders in science, engineering and technology," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. "As the global economy expands, these leaders will strengthen the United States' global competitiveness and leadership in these fields." More... |

Seedburo Present at AOSA/SCST Conference
Seedburo partner Brad Whiting of Mater Seed Equipment recently attended the Association of Seed Analysts Conference in Ft. Collins, CO representing the Mater equipment line and Seedburo products. On display at the table-top conference were the Mater Ergo-Station, the new Mater Diaphanoscope, Seedburo's new Lighted Tweezers, and new product literature for the Seedburo Count-A-Pak Seed Counters and Germinators. Brad reports that the conference was well attended and the displays set-up by various vendors drew some genuine interest. The educational programs brought several positive comments from attendees and the conference was an overall success.
Spectrum Technologies visits Seedburo Equipment Company Seedburo has been a distributor for Spectrum Technologies for several years now and there sales rep visited our offices on June 24th to give a presentation on some of the instruments we distribute for them and to introduce some new items for our consideration. We took advantage of the hands-on demonstration of the FieldScout product line including the TDR300 Soil Moisture Meter, the SC900 Soil Compaction Meter, and the UV and Quantum Light Meters. New products that we are hoping to compliment our line with include the Direct Soil EC Meter, the SoilStik pH Meter, and the Cardy Potassium & Sodium Meters. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for our sales team to get some hands-on training and an education on a few of the items we distribute for Spectrum. It was also nice to spend some "face time" with one of our vendors. We hope more of them will be able to stop by in the future. |

Comment Corner By Kathy Reading |
Over the years Seedburo has made many valuable friendships with industry collegues. Here is a perfect example of one of those friendships we cherish...
Seed Conditioning Reference Book For many years, Seedburo has worked with agricultural colleges and universities around the world and our catalogs are often used as reference books to represent the types of equipment available to the seed and grain industries. When I first started working for Seedburo, some 30 odd years ago, one of the small conventions we did was a 'short course' at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. Tom, Tim, and I have all attended this convention at one time or another. The short courses were designed for those new to the seed industry or international attendees who wanted to learn more about seed cleaning, conditioning, and production. Mississippi State had a terrific seed conditioning facility with seed cleaners, gravity tables, seed elevators, bagging equipment, moisture testers -everything a seed facility might use. More... |

Ministry of Agriculture - Iraq Seedburo Equipment Company has been supplying equipment to several departments within the Ministry of Agriculture in Iraq. These items include equipment for refurbished seed laboratories, grain elevators and seed conditioning plants. A most recent order included offering service training on the Dickey-john GACMINI moisture meters. Mr. Ammar Najm, Eng., was chosen to travel to the US for this training and I accompanied him on a tour of several Illinois locations. Due to the need for Aflatoxin test equipment in Iraq, we toured the Consolidated Grain & Barge facility at Hennepin, IL where we were provided real time testing for Aflatoxin as they received grain at their terminal. We watched as samples were collected with the Apollo grain probe, divided and then ground for testing. The Neogen test kits provided Aflatoxin results within minutes of the initial testing. There are also occasions where the CG&B terminal will test for GMO presence in the delivered loads. SDI is a provider of GMO test strips which indicate the presence of traits within just a few minutes of sample preparation. More...

Ruby - the 'Gem' of Seedburo By Kathy Reading Last year, late in July, our accounting clerk Connie came into the office telling us that she heard something 'mewing' in the bushes outside in front of our building. I went out there along with Connie, our warehouse manager Don, and logistics coordinator JoAnne.
Yep, that was mewing alright! Don climbed into the bushes and pulled out a tiny kitten that was no more than 3 days old. We all did the 'ooh and ah' over it, but what were we going to do with it? It was hot that day and it looked like it was going to storm...but, what were we going to do with this tiny baby kitten? We couldn't leave it out there in the elements, we didn't know where the mother was, and we didn't know if the mother would come back during the day with people in and out of the building; what were we going to do?
