Technology Overview:
Green is the heart of the visible spectrum, where the human eye is most sensitive, making green laser sources vital for applications requiring visible light as well as in other areas. Frequency-doubled solid-state lasers have been the workhorses of the field for many years, and their prices have come down to the point that low-power versions are sold as laser pointers. New semiconductor diode lasers are entering the market.
In this webcast Laser Focus World's contributing editor, Jeff Hecht, reviews the key technologies for green lasers, including frequency-doubled solid-state, fiber, and optically-pumped semiconductor lasers, and direct diodes emitting in the green. He also describes key issues in green-laser applications such as color balance.
