John Martinka's Getting the Deal Done

John's weekly memo to help you do better getting into business, out of your business or improving your business.

Relationships are King in Sports and Business

May 9, 2011

While working out the night I was flipping channels and ended up watching an exciting baseball game between the Brewers and Phillies. The announcers were talking about the Brewers new manager and how, after interviewing for the job, told his wife, "I really like these guys. I hope I get the job." They went on to say how the team executives and the new manager really clicked, personality wise.

Well, isn't it that way in life and business? Small business and business buy-sell is a relationship game.

  1. Nobody will buy a business from or sell a business to somebody they don't like.
  2. Relationships with employees and customers determine the strength of every business.
  3. Being able to have solid relationships with professional advisors, of all types, gets you the best possible advice possible.

So of course it makes sense that a baseball manager would want to "click" with his bosses. And to "click" with his players.
