Greetings!
| Dr. Heidi |
This month our focus is on Gastrointestinal Health. The GI tract serves as 70% of our immune health. This is because the pH in our stomach, as well as helpful bacteria in our digestive tract, serve to kill off most of the bad bugs that enter our system orally. If our stomach pH is off balance or we don't ingest enough helpful probiotic bacteria, our immune system as well as our ability to breakdown food efficiently are lessened. When considering if your digestive tract is healthy, first ask yourself how many firm bowel movements you have in a day. If the answer is 1 to 2, you are on the right track. If the answer is less or more, or if your stool is loose or tough to pass, you may want to begin looking at improving your GI health. Also, if you have indigestion, nausea, cramping or gas on a regular basis or if you get sick often, these are also signs of an unhealthy or imbalanced GI tract.
Increasing water intake, eating green leafy vegetables daily, eliminating ALL simple carbohydrates and supplementing with a high quality probiotic bacteria daily will have a very beneficial impact on your digestive health. Ensuring that you have proper nerve supply to the stomach, small intestine and colon is also key. See the research below explaining how misaligned vertebrae cause nerve pressure to your vital organs. I regularly treat infants with constipation and adults with various forms of GI distress by adjusting the correlating vertebrae. This relieves the nerve pressure allowing the organ to function optimally. If you have any digestive issues or concerns we packed this issue with resources that will help, and as always, feel free to talk with me on your next visit if you still have questions!
Until our next adjustment....
Yours in health, Dr. Heidi & The InnerMovement Wellness Team |

CHIROPRACTIC & DIGESTIVE HEALTH
Studies show that over 40% of doctor visits are for gastrointestinal problems, with complaints ranging from irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal bloating, and diarrhea to constipation. Often there are no answers to these problems because of a lack of diagnosed anatomical or chemical defects.
As early as 1921, it was discovered that spinal abnormalities could cause stomach, esophagus, duodenum, and intestinal disorders. And the famous researcher R. Maigne discovered the releasing stress from the nervous system helped digestive pains and pseudo-ulcers.
Clinical experience reveals chiropractic helps relieve abdominal pain, digestive problems, dyspepsia, and epigiastric distress. A large study involving 385 chiropractors in seven countries who collected information on 5,607 patients found that many reported improvements in digestion with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has relieved abdominal pain, stomach ulcers, gastritis, colitis, and spastic constipation.
The gut has so many nerve cells contained in the tissue lining of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon, it is often referred to as the second brain or "abdominal brain". In a healthy state, sensory nerves carry information to the brain however interference with these control signals can often be the result of neuropathy (changes in nerve pathology) caused by misalignment of the vertebrae that house and protect these delicate nerves. Thus by correcting the underlying cause, vertebral misalignment, with chiropractic adjustments can restore proper communication between the brain and the gut, and may reduce or eliminate many of these gastrointestinal problems. For more information on how Chiropractic can address your digestive health, please consult with Dr. Heidi or Dr. Broosan.

WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS?
The normal human digestive tract contains about 400 types of probiotic bacteria that reduce the growth of harmful bacteria and promote a healthy GI system. Probiotics are bacteria that help maintain the natural balance of organisms (microflora) in the intestines. With the advent of antibiotic medications as well as antibacterial sprays, gels and wipes, we have greatly decreased our exposure to these lifesaving probiotic bacteria.

YELP Testimonial by InnerMovement Patient "Chele F."
"I've been seeing Dr. Heidi for years. Oddly enough, I went in for stomach issues. Doctor's visits & prescribed meds didn't help my stomach so I decided to try chiropractic care at the suggestion of a good friend of mine. I could honestly say, it changed my life forever as I have gained a new understanding of health & the body. Chiropractic care isn't just for the back or neck. My stomach issues went away (caused by my T6 being messed up) but I've continued to see Dr. Heidi for regular adjustments. She and her staff are very friendly & have always been helpful. I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could!! :)"
