Greetings!
Distribution starts this Friday, June 12th! Welcome to all new members. There are instructions on the website for new members and a refresher for returning members. Remember this year it's a new location for the CSA. We will be at the farm in Chester from 3 to 6 pm each Friday rain or shine under the canopy. The season always starts off with lots of green leafy vegetables and we have a great recipe to start with on the website. Here are the location instructions click here we also have a map to get there. BYOB! Simply means to remember to bring your own bag to pick up. We will have bags for those of you that don't have one. The re-usable grocery shopping bags are perfect or a canvas beach bag works. When you arrive make sure you check in. You can park along the side of the road and there is parking on the grass next to the canopy. Watch for children and pets and leave space to exit. Here is Gary's cell phone if you have questions 603 548 5550.

Eat more (and more) vegetables! by Fran Van Geyte
You just may need to with foods
grown the conventional way to receive the same nutrient intakes your
grandpare nts (or now great-grandparents) enjoyed years ago. Studies have shown that the average vegetables
in supermarkets are 5-40% lower in minerals including magnesium, iron, calcium
and zinc than those harvested 50 years ago.
Many theories exist to try and
explain the disturbing possible pattern in the reduction of the nutritional
value of our food. One theory is that
the increase use and dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides cause conventionally
grown crops to grown faster and to be picked earlier allowing less time to
absorb nutrients. This may leave insufficient time to synthesis or interfere
with a plant's ability to actually take up nutrients. Monoculture farming typical of the large
agricultural industry can also create soil-mineral depletion which may affect
the nutrient content of crops. Finally,
what is called the dilutional effect where today's vegetables may be bigger but
contain more "dry matter' which dilutes mineral concentration.
So when it comes to growing vegetables organically, less may
actually be more!
Here's to your health.

Biodegradable Bags
One of the greatest banes of our modern world is the ubiquitous
polyethylene, or plastic, bag. They're so popular that four out of
every five bags handed out at grocery stores are plastic. These little
plastic devils are rarely recycled and don't degrade in the natural
environment, much less in a landfill. click for more...
