Greetings!
To all the new members this year, welcome to our CSA!
Thank you all, we are off to a great year by selling out our shares! Big new too is I have completed the GAP (good agriculteral practices) program. This was a class at the University of Massachusetts farm in South Deerfield, MA. This course will eventually become required as it teaches cleanliness and prevention of crosss contamination at the farm. The vegetable contaminant inations of the past few years has promted action bringing this about. Good point here is that Russ and I were utilizing the pracatices they taught already as our personal sense of how a farm should operate. Warm regards, Gary

Speaking of Seeds Russ Barry, Great Marsh Organics
We buy our seeds from several sources that have certified organic
vegetable, herb, fruit, and flower seeds available. The bulk of our
seeds come from High Mowing Organic Seeds in Vermont. We also purchase what
we'll sow from Seeds of Change Certified Organic, Johnny's Selected Seeds,
Ferry-Morse Seed Company and New England Seed. But what did people do
before there were seed companies? Seeds were saved, passed down, bought, traded,
and sold amongst people who depended upon them. Many of the heirloom
varieties were named after the person who first shared them, or their place of
origin. We especially love these edible heirlooms because of their genetic
purity, their beauty, and their indescribable taste. Last year we began
seriously savings seeds, and we'll be expanding our heirloom seed collection
throughout the 2009 growing season. This year, we hope you'll really enjoy some
of our newest heirloom offerings. Ronde de Nice Zucchini Squash will appear in
the CSA shares. They're round, and from the south of France. Please let us know what you think of these time honored treasures
we're growing for you once you've had a chance to try them!
*The seeds and potting soil we used at the Chester pick your own are organic, seeds from Seeds of Change and Ferry-Morse.
