We Give Books

The Pearson Foundation's newest initiative, We Give Books, encourages readers to CHOOSE  one of Pearson's literacy partners to support, then to READ a story online with a loved-one, and then GIVE books to support literacy around the globe. United Through Reading is proud to be one of eight campaigns being supported.  In 2010, over 10,000 books will be donated to support our programs.  Check out www.wegivebooks.org and select United Through Reading.

Operation Record a Story

Beginning this Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, military moms and dads separated from their children can share story time as a family through Operation Record a Story.  Publications International, Ltd., (PIL) will donate new Record a Story™ books to the United Through Reading® Military Program which deployed service members can record for their children.  Recordings will take place at USO locations in the United States, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait and in command-led programs on aircraft carriers homeported off both the east and west coasts.   The books, together with a video of the parent recording the story, will then be shipped to kids in time for the holidays.

PaperBackSwap

In PaperBackSwap's campaign, Storytime with Soldiers, our national program managers identified deploying commands or units in the continental United States to receive a box of 250 new Scholastic books by FedEx delivery.  PaperBackSwap took care of the rest, delivering the donation at no cost to our Active Duty Coordinators or Homefront Coordinators.  In 2010, over 15,000 books were donated to support United Through Reading's Military Program.
