Playground Build

On Saturday, June 27 ,over 350 volunteers participated on a playground
build at Davis Park. That group included 185 volunteers from the Smith Hill, Mt. Pleasant and Elmhurst neighborhoods alone! The work was made possible through a KaBOOM!
grant that matched corporate sponsor, MetLife, with Smith Hill CDC,
Elmhurst Clean & Green and the Providence Parks Department. The
playground is the latest stage of the Davis Park Renovation. The build also had great local support by many area businesses, including: Everyman - a Rhode Island Bistro, Del's Lemonade, Wes' Rib House and Dunkin Doughnuts.
Community Garden
The Community Garden at Davis Park is going strong. There are over 20 plots growing and plenty of positive energy. There is still space for additional beds and we are looking for
more community gardeners. Click here for fliers in English and Spanish.
HousEART Community Project
Smith Hill Community Development Corporation is
proud to announce the completion of our first Community Art
Project by local artist, Lydia Stein, located at 16 Bernon St.
HousEART seeks to connect Providence Artists with neighborhood children in
order to turn vacant, blighted and recently foreclosed multi-family houses into
temporary works of art.
This creative management of vacant housing is possible because the CDC owns the properties and they will be completely rehabilitated later in the year.
16 Bernon St. is just off Douglas Ave. and two
blocks from Orms St. - a highly visible location on the commute for many
downcity workers. If you haven't already, please take a walk by to appreciate Ms. Stein's exceptional work.
If you would like to view more pictures of Ms. Stein's work or learn more,

Erasing the Defacing is a public/private partnership between the
Smith Hill Community Development
Corporation, Mt. Pleasant Hardware,
The City of Providence and Pittsburg Paints which is designed to help
homeowners, tenants and small business owners keep their properties
graffiti-free.
The program will supply a limited quantity of free
color-matched paint for use in the repainting
and maintenance of vandalized areas on Smith Hill and Mt. Pleasant properties. Click here to learn more.
