If you think "speaking" or presenting is a mostly intellectual task, like writing a report, of course, to some extent, you'd be correct.
More accurately, it is physical--like playing golf, tennis, or polo. This means, if you spend most of your time thinking about speaking, you'll get a lot better at thinking.
You have to speak - out loud - to get better at it. There's no way to get around it.
