Dear Advent Friends:
This is a brief update on a few things that are going on which we want everyone to know about:
1. I (Chris) have received several testimonies from members of the congregation, almost all from people I would never have expected!!! (By the way, "usual suspects" are warmly encouraged to participate.) Please do not get too hung up on the 100 word thing. The notion is to make it short and well thought out. I have received really good testimonies from 100 words to about 300. Someone apologized for running over by ten words!! We encourage anyone and everyone to do this exercise.
* Advent - Arlington folks will learn what I'm talking about this Sunday as I preach on "The Power of Your Story." 2. Chris and Tim Kennelly are leading an eleven week study of Psalms. We've already had orientation, but the first actual week of the study is Sunday, September 27. The study begins at 4:40 pm in Room 206 upstairs in the Schieber Educational Building. John Calvin spoke of the Psalms as a book that opens up to each one of us the very secrets of our heart as we come face to face with every human emotion. As the book of Psalms enters into our hearts, the very music of heaven enters our souls. Huddle parents especially will enjoy this study, since it is timed to begin and end with Huddle. Consider attending. If you are interested call Chris at 755-6290, ext. 14. 3. Today, Wednesday, September 16 begins the Fall 2009 Wednesday Night Youth Club. Everyone is welcome to attend for dinner, some discipleship and a lot of fellowship. Parents, we encourage every parent to help in some small way in Youth Club. When we all work together we make a very big impact on the lives of our children! 4. We will have a "Fish Fry" this Sunday, September 20th at 5:00 pm at Advent-Cordova. There is a concert after dinner at about 6:00. Donations will go to support our mission work at Advent.
Dave, Don, Cindy and I are blessed to be pastors of such a loving congregation.
God bless you all this week!

Just Walk Across the Room!
September is the month of evangelism for Advent Church. The focus is on taking small steps toward our friends, family, and neighbors that can lead them to big steps of faith. Evangelism can be as simple as just walking across the room/yard to strike up a conversation, develop a friendship, or invite someone to an enjoyable event.
Our pastors will preach weekly on the theme and many adult classes will be meeting weekly to go through the video study.
Books of the same name are available weekly at the church for $10. |
Our Vision
We envision a church of committed disciples who cause God great joy by sharing His love with others as we have seen it in Jesus Christ.
Our Mission |
|
Exalt: Provide an environment in which members and visitors glorify God and celebrate their faith in Jesus Christ as we worship God together. Equip: Create Biblically literate disciples that witness for Christ, win others to him, and follow Christ as Savior and Lord in their daily lives. Embrace: Nurture a sincere atmosphere of prayer, care, and sharing as we remain closely united in spirit and encourage one another in the things of God. Empower: Demonstrate the Gospel as ambassadors of Christ through acts of loving concern, compassion, mission, and service to members, the community, and beyond. Evangelize: Bring people to faith in Jesus Christ and welcome them into our fellowship. Excel: To do all we do in excellence so we might glorify God in our efforts.
Our focus is on Worship, Children's Ministries, and Adult Growth Circles
