|
We invite you to join us at Advent Arlington this Christmas Eve. We are holding a special Christmas Eve Service at 6:30 pm this Wednesday. It will include Christmas Carols, a children's performance, candle-lighting, and a time to focus our spirit upon the birth of Christ. Our church is located on 6176 Chester Street in historic Arlington, just a block south of the town square. May God bless you and your family this Christmas season,
Don Kerns Pastor, Advent Arlington Church

As this year comes to a close we are truly just beginning our journey together. To begin a new church in many ways is like starting a new family. We have come together in these past few months learning about each other, how some of us have found our way to Christ, and in the process shared our joys, fears, hopes and dreams. In this month's issue you will share in how we have traveled together, our plans to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and how a few brave souls took on the task of watching over our children. What a beautiful family we have built.
While there is little doubt the year to come will bring hardships for many in our family, our prayers will be bountiful together. I know I speak for us all when I thank the lord for how we are all blessed by the new relationships he is fostering at Advent Arlington. Thank you for being a part of my family, Merry Christmas!

Arlington Christmas Parade
by Rhonda Barnhill
Braving the cold on December 6th were many Advent @ Arlington members. Whether it was those singing or playing in the band on the "Old Time Christmas Tree Lot" float, Carolers singing on the S.Y. Wilson porch in the town square, or our members walking around in their new sweatshirts and hats, it seems that Advent Arlington was everywhere. And many people took notice, asking about our new church and making comments about how great were our "sounds of the season." Thank you to all who helped make this a truly joyous occasion! |
| Parents Night Out
by: Bob Fencl
On Friday December 12, Advent Arlington hosted over 20 children of all ages (along with 5 brave adults) for our first "Parent's Night Out." The evening was full of games and activities for the kids while parents spent time going to dinner, finishing that last-minute Christmas shopping, or just enjoying some quiet time at home. Overall, the event was a success and we are already looking for another date in early 2009 to repeat the program. Special thanks to Kelly Henson, Amy Stookey and Adrian Fencl for the many hours spent preparing for the night and looking after all our kids!

We invite you to celebrate the gift of Christmas with us at our home this Sunday evening from 4-7 pm. You are welcome to come and go as you wish. You need not bring anything. Call Amy (901-483-7293) if you have any questions. Our address is 5489 Hidden Meadows Drive (click for map) in Arlington. It is on Memphis-Arlington Road directly across from the Arlington Middle School driveway, on the corner of the Hidden Meadows neighborhood (the brick sign is in our yard and there are colored Christmas lights out front). Nevermind the "No Parking" signs out front that the town has put up -- they are aimed at Middle School traffic, not you! We wish you and your family the Christmas season's joys and wonders. Christ the Savior is Born!
Sincerely, Donald Kerns Advent Church |

Have you noticed? Well sure you have by now. Advent Arlington proudly displays our logo with a new sign just in time for the season of Advent and Arlington's Christmas parade. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a possibility. It sure is fun to see our name up in lights! | |

Advent Arlington is a new church that is just now forming. We are currently gathering weekly to prepare for the launch of this new congregation, a second site of Advent Church in Cordova, on February 15, 2009. Our mission: As disciples, to cause God great joy by sharing his love with others as we have seen it in Jesus Christ. Our focus: worship (exalting our Lord), children and youth (making them into disciples of Jesus), and adults (growing in love of God and one another). We gather weekly on Sundays from 10:30-12:00 for a time of worship and study. This is a time of prayer, of forming our launch team, of organizing our ministries, and of beginning to serve our community. On Sundays January 25, February 1 & 8, we will begin 10 am Sunday School for all ages followed by 11 am preview worship services. Please let Pastor Don Kerns (dkerns@adventpres.com or 901-483-7295) know if you would like to join our launch team or have questions about Advent Arlington. |
