Fall Homecoming Oct. 9-10 Greetings!
Greetings from Grayson! The hallways of KCU are once again buzzing with excitement as students have returned to campus. We're equally excited about our upcoming Homecoming festivities on October 9th-10th, and hope you'll make plans to join us for some or all of Homecoming Weekend.
Here's an overview of the exciting events planned for the 2009 KCU Fall Homecoming. More details can be found on the alumni page of the KCU website.
Friday, October 9th Dick Damron Classic Golf Scramble - The event kicks off at 8:00 am at the Hidden Cove Golf Course at Grayson Lake State Park, one of Golf Digest's highest rated public courses. You won't want to miss this great day of fun and fellowship, and a chance to remember a dear friend to Kentucky Christian University. Lunch will be provided on site. All proceeds benefit the Dick Damron Memorial Scholarship Fund, helping KCU students who are pursuing a ministry degree. Details and sign-up information can be found later in this newsletter.
Chapel Celebration - We've moved our Friday chapel to 1:30 in the afternoon to make it easier for you to join the student body for a time of worship. Paul Williams ('73) will be bringing our message, and Mike Parker ('95) and the Open Door Band will be leading us in worship. Chapel has always been an integral part of life at KCU, and we want you to have the opportunity to come back and experience it all over again.
Music Student Alumni Recital - At 3:00pm, feel free to join us in the Chapel for a music recital featuring the talents of several KCU alumni. This event is being coordinated by Daniel Bell ('05), KCU Professor of Voice.
Alumni & Friends Banquet - Join us at 6:00 pm in Lusby Center's Dick Damron Hall of Champions. Dr. Jeffrey K. Metcalf, KCU's fifth president, will be introduced and entertainment will be provided by special guest alumni soloists. Tickets required; see sign-up form.
Class Reunions - We've set aside space in the McKenzie Student Life Center at 8:00pm for those who are having reunions in years ending in '9' or '4'. Some groups have been very active planning a reunion, but it's not too late to get friends from your class together! Contact the Alumni office for more details.
Late-Knight Pep Rally - For the night owls, join us and the rest of the KCU student body as we start a new tradition with our homecoming bonfire. In addition to the bonfire we'll have a smaller fire for roasting, and all the marshmallows necessary for a great time of family fun! We will also be entertained by a professional fireworks display so you won't want to miss the fun. It all starts at 9:30 pm.
Saturday, October 10th Breakfast Forums - Join us at 8:00 am for breakfast with other alumni and current students. Sign up for the breakfast that fits you best - Ministry, Music, Business, Education, Social Work/Counseling Psych, Nursing, or Arts & Humanities. Each breakfast will feature a presenter on a topic related to that field, and a chance to hear more about what's going on in each area. Great opportunity to network with other alumni in your field or area of emphasis. Tickets required; see sign-up form.
Special Saturday Chapel - We'll gather together at 9:30am in the Chapel for another time of celebration with Mike Parker and the Open Door Band, and a final challenge from Paul Williams.
Football Game & Tailgate Party - The KCU Knights will play Georgetown College at 1:00 pm at South Point (OH) High School Field (30 min. from KCU Campus). Join us beginning at 11:30 for a fun-packed tailgate party at the stadium preceding the game. There will be plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and live music from some of KCU's very own. Tickets required; see sign-up form.
Join us at Homecoming 2009 for a time of fun, fellowship and support of our beloved KCU and students. To register, print, complete and return the sign-up form found here, or click here to register online. Registering by September 30th will help us plan appropriately for a terrific weekend!

Knights Football Is Underway! |

For a large number of us, it still might seem a little unusual to mention the phrase "KCU Football." But it's here, and it's the real deal! Why not take a road trip to catch the Knights this season as they continue to pave their way in the Mid-South Conference. There are a number of games and locations to choose from on the schedule, and hopefully there's a game near you!
If you're not able to attend a game, you can follow the action online at www.wgohwugo.com as Tim Carper and Mic Marshall (both KCU Alums) cover every game on the KCU Sports Radio Network. Click any of the following links for more info on this year's KCU Football Knights!
Come Tailgate With Us!
The Alumni office is planning at least two tailgate parties for alumni and friends. The first is during Homecoming on Oct. 10th (details above). The second is November 14th in Angola, IN as the Knights take on Trine University. Dr. Metcalf will be joining us for this road trip, and would love a chance to meet with you, answer questions, and share some pre-game grub. Watch for more details, but if you're in striking distance of northeastern Indiana, circle the date and plan to join us! |
Faith Promise 2009-2010 @ KCU |
Faith Promise has been a long-standing tradition on the campus of Kentucky Christian University. We're thrilled to announce that it is alive and well among the student body, faculty and staff. This past week, our campus family welcomed Tommy and John Thomas Oaks for a week of challenge and inspiration, under the heading Make Him Famous, our theme for this year which is taken from Isaiah 26:8. Through God's leading, our campus family pledged an amazing $56,903 to world missions! This year, the KCU community will be partnering with the Hands & Feet project in Haiti, Nate & Whitney Hutchison in their church-planting efforts in New Zealand, a Good News Productions project in Myanmar, and a partnership with Team Expansion. Each of our missions partners has a unique KCU alumni connection. Pray for us as we strive to not only meet our goal, but see God stretch our students through our Faith Promise efforts.
