KCU Celebrates Her 90th Birthday!

Greetings!

We've come a long way since our humble beginnings as "Christian Normal Institute" in 1919. We've been through two name changes - to "Kentucky Christian College" in 1944 and to our current "Kentucky Christian University" in 2004. And though the name of the institution may have changed over the years, KCU remains unwaveringly committed to its mission of educating students for Christian leadership and service in the Church and in professions throughout the world.

What do the next 90 years look like for Kentucky Christian University?seal The answer to that may be hard to predict. But we're convinced that God will continue to use this great institution to prepare Kingdom workers that will greatly influence the generations to come.

As an Alumnus of KCU, we hope you will link arms with us as we continue to follow God's leading for the future of our alma mater. We are thrilled to have such terrific Alumni, and we can't thank you enough for your willingness to be ambassadors for this unique school through which we share a common bond.

Some Habits Are Hard To Break

lady knights 3

Kentucky Christian University Women's Basketball Coach Ron Arnett has made history. The 61-year old Arnett won his 11th national championship with KCU this season, surpassing John Wooden as the all-time leader in national championships by any college basketball coach at any level. Wooden won 10 national titles in 29 years of coaching, including 7 in a row at UCLA from 1967-1973.

Arnett has led the Lady Knights to national championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009. The Lady Knights have also been the national runner-up four times under Arnett's direction. He is 484-133 (78%) in his 18 seasons as head coach.

The Lady Knights won this year's national title on their home floor, knocking off #2 seed Southwestern Christian University (Bethany, OK) 70-62 in the national title game. "Coach Arnett has had an incredible run", commented KCU Athletic Director Rick Cooper. "His commitment to excellence, however, is not just evident by his 11 national championships or his 6 "National Coach Of The Year" awards. Like Coach Wooden, Coach Arnett has always demanded excellence in the classroom, and he has always placed a high premium on the character of his girls. He is worthy of recognition for his work both on and off the court."

The Lady Knights compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II. In his career, Arnett is an astounding 330-10 (97%) against NCCAA II opponents.

Congratulations to Coach Arnett and the 08-09 Lady Knights!

Every Church In 2009 Initiative

"The partnership between the University and the local church is vital to the health and well-being of our Christian movement and our mutual commitment to the Great Commission." - Dr. Keith Keeran

The Office of Church Relations is well on its way in the President's "Every Church in 2009" campaign. This initiative has the goal of making a KCU visit to all our supporting churches in the course of the year. Thus far, we have over 100 churches that have been visited or are scheduled for a visit (and several pending)! KCU representatives are available to preach the word and meet with your missions and leadership teams.

To inquire about the schedule of church visits or to arrange one for your church, please contact the Church Relations Office at 606.474.3127 or vmarshall@kcu.edu. We are eager to update our congregations on the current activities of the University and to learn how we can better serve our partner churches.

Did you know? ... KCU offers $2000 per year in scholarships to qualifying students from Covenant Church Partners? Want more information? Contact Al Serhal, Director of Church Relations at aserhal@kcu.edu.

KCU Concert Choir @ Lincoln Center in NYC - April 19th
Lincoln CenterIt's no secret that the KCU Concert Choir is good. If you have joined us for the Feast of Christmas or had the opportunity to experience the choir in person at any number of churches or other venues, you know they're good. On April 19th, they have the privilege of performing with live orchestra in the prestigious Lincoln Center. The concert, which will be the first of its kind, will be held in Avery Fisher Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Joining the KCU Choir will be the 74-voice choir from East Carter High School, also under the direction of Dr. Mark Deakins, as well as a number of KCU music alumni.

Alumni Classic Basketball - April 24th @ CCU

Alumni Classic

The legendary on-court rivalry continues between the men's basketball programs from Kentucky Christian University and Cincinnati Christian University. On Friday, April 24th at 7:30 pm, alumni from the KCU men's basketball program will take on alumni from the CCU men's program. This second-annual event will be held in the gymnasium at Cincinnati Christian University. While both teams host annual alumni games of their own, this is only the second match-up between alumni from the two schools. It will be a regulation game, meaning there will be two 20-minute halves. The game will also have certified officials, so the match-up promises to be quite entertaining.

Immediately following the game will be a reception for KCU Alumni & Friends featuring LaRosa's Pizza, a Cincinnati tradition. Join us for a great night of basketball and a chance to catch up with fellow alumni.
