Transitions
It's the time of year where we wish departing faculty and staff members well and welcome new faculty and staff members to the school for the coming school year.
Departing at the end of the current school year are a number of people who have made a significant contribution to our school. Scott Bryant, our coach and PE teacher, will be taking the position of Aquatics Director at a sister independent school. Coach Scott has been at Gesher for seven years and we all know the impact he has made here. Of course, we are pleased for him on this career advancement.
Elana Milstein, our Technology Coordinator, will be taking a position at the Potomac School for next year. Elana was with us at Gesher for five years and oversaw the creation of the computer network in our facility and the associated technological enhancements to our program. Elana has also co-directed our Student Council and edited our yearbook, among many other contributions.
Leslie Ackerman, our gr. 3-8 science teacher, and Amy Reynolds, our gr. 2 Jewish Studies teacher, will be leaving Gesher after three and two years, respectively. Both have generated much learning and enthusiasm among our students.
Yanai Zamir and Dalia Almany, two of our upper elementary and middle school Hebrew and Jewish Studies teachers, who joined our faculty mid-year this year, will also be departing. Yanai will be returning to Israel in the early fall.
At present, we are excited to announce the addition of our new teachers who will be joining our faculty in the fall. Joanna Katz will be our Science Teacher for grades 3-8. Joanna has a Masters of Education from the University of Pennsylvania with certification in elementary and middle school. Joanna has already formed a connection to Gesher through her staff work at the Teva Learning Center so naturally we will look forward to her contribution to our Gesher Green initiative. We know she will make a wonderful addition to our team.
We wish all our departing faculty and staff well as we prepare to welcome new faculty and staff members for next year!

New this summer! Summer Day Camp @ Gesher! "A Trip to Israel"
Send your child to Israel for two weeks this summer without boarding a plane! "A Trip to Israel Camp" is a Junior-Kindergarten program designed specially for four and five-year-olds (children must by four by July 1st). Daily activities will transport your child to locations such as a Jerusalem marketplace, the Dead Sea, and Eilat, where they will be immersed in the culture and geography of Israel in an age-appropriate, fun, and memorable way. Social skills are honed for the Kindergarten or pre-K year through plenty of active and imaginative play opportunities.
The 2-week day camp held at Gesher JDS in Fairfax will be held Aug 8-19 from 9am-1pm. The camp is taught by pre-K teacher, Judy Cincinnati, who brings a wealth of experience and her love of children and Israel together to create a vibrant and fun learning experience for your child. For more information and to register, check out the attached flyer. Questions? Email summerdaycamp@gesher-jds.org or call 703-962-9182.
