Happy Summer at last!
August sees the end of our Anniversary Sale and the beginning of preparations for the Holidays. They will be here before we know it!
But there is still time to enjoy the long summer evenings, strolling Wallingford and getting some shopping done. It always feels like "found" time to me. On Wednesdays the Farmers market is open until 7, and Wallingford Center is open evenings til 8, so come on by!
Attending a wedding or special event this month? If you are searching for the perfect accessories to go with a particular outfit, please don't hesitate to bring it in. Change in our fitting room and let us help you get the full effect! We love finding earrings to go with a necklace, a wrap or scarf to go with a dress. Come in and enjoy trying lots of options - sometimes the best thing is a complete surprise!

The Blue Skies of August!

I think the blue skies of August have been pulling our dedicated editor/contributor/business owner/wife/mother/friend/co-worker/chief cook and bottle-washer away from the computer which is located in a north-facing room (read - dark). Instead she has been seeking inspiration at Green Lake, in the garden, in the store, at the beach. She has been busy researching Facebook, Crave Parties, Fortune-telling Booths and how the light hits the trees. She has been sojourning with friends who are experts on Birthdays, ice cream, coffee drinks, wine and weddings. Plans are being made for the Gift Show, budgeting, the Holidays, trunk shows. Hopes are being kept alive for some solitude, painting, camping, perhaps a pedicure.
I think we will here more from her in September!

Watermelon Agua Fresca Makes about 8 cups
|

10 cups 1-inch pieces peeled watermelon, seeded, divided (about an 8# melon)
3 cups cold water, divided
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1/4 cup (or more to taste) sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh ginger juice (from a 3 inch piece of ginger)
ice cubes
lime wedges
Peel ginger, grate over a plate. Wrap in cheesecloth and twist at both ends to squeeze out the juice.
Place 2 1/2 cups watermelon and 3/4 cup cold water in blender. Puree until smooth. Pour into large pitcher. Repeat 3 more times with remaining melon and water. Add lime juice, sugar and ginger juice. Stir to blend. Add more sugar as desired. Refrigerate until well chilled - about 3 hours.
Serve over ice, garnished with lime wedges.
