Issue: # 8   February 2009

February is a month with a lot going on - just check our list below of things to celebrate - our theme for the year!
We are celebrating a beautiful feature article in Seattle Woman Magazine this month that is entitled "Women of Wallingford". You can find this very informative publication free around town, and we will have the article on our website very soon. I feel extremely honored to have been included!
It is the time of year when it's still cold and rather bleak outside, but if you look closely, you will see little green points poking up through the ravages of the fall and winter. Nature is Not sleeping! Buds are formed and swelling, getting ready, ready for what comes next.
Crackerjack is getting ready for what comes next too.  Valentine's Day is first on the list right now, and we have lots of great gift ideas for your Valentine from exquisite jewelry such as an Extasia bracelet with a red glass intaglio set in red bronze, to the newest addition from Zents - the attar. This is a small-enough-to-travel roll-on concentrated oil, available in all ten fragrances - an essential addition to your Zents collection.  Pick out a soon-to-be-favorite wooden bookmark to enhance your reading of a Dickens you never read, or a re-reading of Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, both of whom were born this month! And don't forget the chocolates, or wine candies to savor as you read!
Watch for new Spring jackets and clothing to be arriving over the next month or two. Even though you still need to scrape frost off the car in the morning, Spring will be arriving shortly - just check out those little bits of green in your own yard to know for sure!

Valentine's Day
Don't you think Valentine's Day is the sweetest holiday? After all, it celebrates one of  our best yearnings - to love and be loved. And while it is often romantic love that we think of on Valentine's Day, it is also a day to honor the love of a parent for a child, a friend for a friend, a sibling for a sibling. While red hearts and paper lace doilies may be ubiquitous, there is something re-assuring about them - is it nostalgia for grade school when you could sit for hours making Valentines, the smell of the paste, all the pretty pinks and reds that brought warmth and brightness to the still, dark days of February?

If you've moved on from sticky fingers and markers, take a look at the handmade valentines we have in the store. After all, if you don't have time to make them yourself, why not enjoy giving one another artist has made?

And if you need a gift or two for those who are close to your heart, remember our wonderful jewelry selection, pocket knives for the guys, pretty scarves, indulgent bath and body care, yummy chocolates and sophisticated wine candies.

We are stocked up on red and pink and lavender ribbon just waiting to adorn your gifts!

NEXT MONTH: March into Spring!
Again, thank you for your continued patronage of a local independent business and for supporting American handmade!

Have the loveliest of Valentine's Days!

A Poem by Langston Hughes
The Dream Keeper

Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamer,
Bring me all your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too-rough fingers
Of the world.
