Wood Badge Informational Video
|
Dear Scout Leader,
As you know, volunteers within the Inland Northwest Council work each year building a Wood Badge course, the advanced leadership-training course for the council. The National BSA designs the course and the council volunteers spend hours perfecting their presentations for the benefit of our fellow leaders.
Effectively teaching the principles of leadership requires a minimum number of participants 30 days prior to the start of the course. This year that means we need to have applications in by April 30. This is where we need your assistance. We are still about a dozen participants shy of having the minimum required. If you have been considering Wood Badge, now is the time. Contact any of the representatives below who will assist you with the application and register you by the deadline.
If you would like to attend Wood Badge, but finances are an issue then know that we have scholarship money available to assist in the cost of the course. You should also check with your units, sponsor organizations, and employers. They all recognize the value of leadership and can often help with the cost of the course. Employers spend up to $2,000 for similar courses and that does not include the cost meals and sleeping arrangements.
If getting time away from work is a problem, consider talking to your employer about the benefits of leadership taught by Wood Badge. Many employers are more than willing to help with time off. They realize that the principles of leadership can benefit the business as much as it can benefit a scout unit. You can find the information to share about the course at http://www.betterscoutleader.org.
If you have already attended Wood Badge, talk to other adult volunteers in your unit. The more leaders in your unit who can relate to the principles of leadership taught at the Wood Badge course the more benefits your unit will realize.
Please, Act now. Help us get the numbers we need in order for this year's course to move forward. Remember, our deadline is April 30 for having signed applications turned into the scout office.
Sincerely,
Cindy James, Wood Badge Course Director
