Spokane Centennial Leadership Breakfast a Success
Leadership Breakfast
On February 26th the Spokane Centennial Leadership Breakfast was held.  More than 800 members of our local communities were in attendance to support Scouting and to help us to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.

Our Keynote speaker was Giovanni Livera.  His spectacular message of "Anything is Possible" electrified the audience.  Giovanni's first magic show was in Cub Scouts and he shared his feelings on Scouting and how important it has been in his life.

Come see Giovanni at the Centennial Camporee, where he will entertain us with a completely different show.  The breakfast ended with the grand total announcement.  More than $196,000 was raised to support Scouting.

A special thank you to all of the Scouting units that came to help out, to Jeff Thomas and Tom Magnuson, our breakfast co-chairs, and to Gibby Media for their media support.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (B.A.L.O.O.) - Cub Scout Training
baloo
Pack your pack for Cub Scout Camping!  No, we don't mean your backpack, we mean your Cub Scout pack.  The camping season is just around the corner.  If you and your pack want to go camping, then you need to have at least one registered leader complete the BASIC ADULT LEADER OUTDOOR ORIENTATION (BALOO) course.  This is a required course so that a Cub Scout pack can go camping on their own.

BALOO is a one day course and will be held on May 8, 2010 at Camp Cowles in Carbon Lodge.  It will cover what it takes to have a safe campout, activities you can have, campfires, cooking and what you need to consider in planning for your big event.  Check-in and registration begins at 8:00 a.m.  Training will start with an opening ceremony at about 8:45 a.m. and finish at about 5:00 p.m. that day.  Lunch is provided and is included in the course fee.

The cost is $10 per person and covers all informational handouts and food.  You can register online by clicking here, or at the Scout office nearest you.  Registration deadline is May 5, 2010.  For more information you can contact Mark Des Rosiers at 509-953-5965 or via email at medesr@concentric.net

National Youth Leadership Training
hand circle
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an intense, 6 day, outdoor experience for troop youth leaders. Its principle function is to help Scoutmasters by training their top boy leaders in the skills of leadership.

NYLT is limited to 64 candidates and because space is limited, candidates will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, with a maximum of two candidates per troop.  Others will be considered as room permits.  The conference will be held at Cowles Scout Reservation the week of June 20-25, 2010.   Youth will learn to make a powerful impact on the youth they work with in their troop.  Join the adventure of National Youth Leadership Training.

Applications have already been mailed to registered Scoutmasters, and will also be available at all three Service Centers and online by clicking here.  For more information you may also contact Doug Rowe (Course Director) douglo311@yahoo.com

Nomination forms are due to the Council Service Centers no later than March 31, 2010.
Scout Shop News
Webelos that are receiving their Arrow of Light, make sure you pick up the Ceremonial Arrow Kit at the Scout Shop. It's only $14.99 and is the perfect recognition gift to give to those scouts who have worked so hard to get where they are now.

As we head into the next couple of months, more and more Webelos will be transitioning into the Boy Scouts. Make sure that they are properly attired and ready for that extra level of excitement that comes with Boy Scouting. The first thing your new Boy Scout will need is the new Centennial Uniform. The shirts come in both cotton poplin and nylon materials and the zip-off pants in cotton canvas and nylon varieties. Never before has the Boy Scout uniform been as comfortable and practical as today!

Nowadays, we see more and more units getting custom apparel made for their scouts to wear. Jackets, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and caps are just a few ways for your scouts to be in uniform at informal events. These are just a few of the items that you order with just about anything you want embroidered or screen-printed on it.
