The Alliance Française of San Diego inaugurated its first location with His Excellency Pierre Vimont, Ambassador of France to the United States, The Honorable David Martinon, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, The Honorable Erik A. Nowacki Consul General of Sweden in San Diego, Christophe Vauthez from the General Consulate of Switzerland in Los Angeles, Mrs. Kareen Rispal, Cultural Counselor of France in the United States, Mr. Thierry Lagnau, Delegate General of the Alliance Française in the United States, Mrs. Sheila Jackson San Diego Unified School District Board President and Mrs. Lisa Gordon, Director of protocol City of San Diego.
In his speech preceding the traditional ribbon-cutting, Ambassador Vimont emphasized the remarkable energy of our Alliance Française, which began offering courses less than three years ago and achieved exemplary results, thanks to the skills of its educational director and to the enlightened management of its board of directors. Ambassador Vimont bestowed Dr. Jayne Abrate, the Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of France, with the Officer of the Order of the Academic Palms award, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished civil awards.
The reception ended with performers Queen Ka and Carl Besette.

| Award Ceremony & Annual Meeting |
The recipients of the 2009 AFSD Scholarships, Uriel Ornelas and Maria-Teresa Topete, and our awardees of "La plume d'or", Martin Granowitz and Maria-Teresa Topete, will be honored at a special award ceremony prior to the Annual AFSD Board Members Meeting on Friday, Dec. 11th starting at 6:00pm.
Members of the Alliance Francaise of San Diego and their guests are invited to attend both the Award Ceremony and the Annual Meeting. Our monthly cine-club will be held directly following the meeting. |

| Open House and Book Fair |
Find out what the only French language and cultural center in San Diego has to offer! The Alliance Française de San Diego is hosting an open house for the general public on Thursday, December 17th from 10:30am to 7:00pm. Meet our staff and teachers, gather information about our French classes for children and adults, get a 10% discount when you register for a class, check out the latest arrivals in our French library, and discover our exciting cultural program. Refreshments & snacks will be served all day. Book fair presented by "My French Bookstore": A great opportunity to find gifts for friends and family among a wide selection of French books and DVDs for children and adults. | Teen Lounge |
Teen Lounge had a very promising launch with a Capoeira class taught by our volunteer, Gregory. The AFSD had the privilege to welcome two Capoeira Masters for this event: Master Paulo Batuta from San Diego and Contra-Mestre Chicote from Brazil as well as other members of "Capoeira Mandinga San Diego" who offered an outstanding demonstration of the Brazilian Martial Art.
 Our Capoeira event was attended by French Basketball player Medhi Cheriet who encouraged our participants throughout the class. Be sure to check out our Teen lounge events as the Aztecs player has graciously offered to share his skills and expertise in basketball with our members in the near future.

| Members only: Wine Workshop |
Our first wine worshop:"Vins de la Vallee de la Loire" was very succesfull thanks to the talent of our hosts and wine connoiseurs, Herns Pierre-Jerome and Devon Magee. Our members learned about the Loire region and its finest wines in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Our wine workshops will resume after the holidays.

Le Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 organized in collaboration with the SDFACC gathered about 170 people at the Bali Hai Restaurant.
