What a year!
With your support and encouragement, and the collective power of our work
together, we Unitarian Universalists in Minnesota have much to celebrate.
Maybe you saw us at the State Capitol just a few weeks ago, when
MUUSJA's Voting Rights advocates joined in announcing the hard data
showing that Minnesota's elections are fair and virtually free of fraud - in
stark contrast to some heated rhetoric surrounding the gubernatorial recount.
Maybe you know that MUUSJA is a key partner in the HIRE Minnesota Coalition,
which works to ensure that public investments in infrastructure and renewable
energy help lift people out of poverty. We're holding the Metropolitan
Council and Minnesota Department of Transportation accountable, so that hiring
will reduce our state's troubling racial disparities and better reflect its
wonderful diversity.
Maybe you took part in the huge rally during General Assembly, the one
that moved thousands of UUs from across the nation to proclaim our message of love
and justice to everyone at the Twin Cities Pride Festival. The nation-wide
Standing on the Side of Love campaign turned to MUUSJA for on-the-ground
support for this powerful event.
Maybe you helped out with one of MUUSJA's three social justice workshops at
General Assembly - that's as many or more
workshops than UU organizations many times our size!

Local UU youth were powerful advocates for
their school-age LGBT friends

HIRE Minnesota presented their groundbreaking
cross-racial, cross-boundary organizing
-
We showcased Minnesota's same-day voter
registration, a key to accessible democracy
One hundred General Assembly
attendees and friends from around the country networked and were inspired to
keep moving forward together on climate justice when we collaborated with the
UU Ministry for Earth on shared meal and a thoughtful program.
Please make a
year-end membership contribution or gift of $35, $50, $100, $1000, or whatever you can afford, to
support this and so much UU work for justice.
MUUSJA mobilized UUs to respond to
the rash of bullying and tragic suicides in Minnesota, turning out for a moving
candlelight vigil, pulling UU clergy together to write an anti-bullying
statement, and actively participating in the People of Faith initiatives of our
ally OutFront Minnesota.
Our Sacred Choices annual intergenerational film night again drew a big crowd
to be inspired, engaged and connected to the ongoing struggle to keep all
options open for women's health.
We promoted reducing, reusing and recycling with our innovative "UUs save soles" shoe renewal drive during the Global Work Party for the Earth this fall.
Thanks to your
generosity and involvement, MUUSJA's programs are making a difference, our UU
voice is being heard, and we are building lasting relationships with partners
that are making change happen.
Frankly, it has also been a year of challenge. The economy, and
opportunities for women and people of color, continue to lag. A controversial decision by the U.S. Supreme
Court has unleashed democracy-threatening torrents of anonymous political
money. This fall's elections mean that the hard work of addressing
climate change got even harder.
And the rights of LGBT Minnesotans are newly threatened -- less than 36 hours
after polls closed on November 2nd, calls were renewed for a
statewide amendment to bar LGBT marriages and civil unions.
These challenges mean the need
for MUUSJA and for the organized, moral voice of Unitarian Universalists is
greater than ever. We can
build on our successes, our skills, and our relationships today for a better
tomorrow.
In 2011 our local, collective UU
voice for public values can be heard, and must be heard. Will you help?
