Greetings!
Renew Sole 350
The 10.10.10 Global Work Party was really fun! We got the message of reduce-reuse-resole out to UUs and to Shoe-A-New customers. Take a look at some of the images from all around the world at 350.org, and from our local event on MUUJSA's facebook photo page (you don't need to be a facebook member to view these).

And once you've seen some of the compelling images from the 7,347 work parties around the globe, please take a moment to contact key officials - President Obama, Secretary Clinton, and Senators Klobuchar and Franken - and tell them "we're working to solve climate change, and you need to get to work too!"

350.org has this simple call-in widget that will give you contact numbers and has a short script to help you know what you might say. Your follow-up (whether you attended a 10.10.10 event or not) can multiply the impact of our weekend of actions!

A number of you have been in touch, concerned about school bullying and the spate of recent suicides.  MUUSJA is working with area congregations and UU ministers to submit an OpEd in our major daily papers. We also urge you to attend this coming Thursday's candelight vigil in Loring Park.

As always, there's also plenty more events and actions, including events tomorrow and out for several weeks. Take a look below and hope to see you there!

Though we live in a democratic society, many feel that their voices and votes aren't heard and don't count. Join the Headwaters Foundation for Justice and Keesha Gaskins, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters Minnesota as she explains how how disenfranchised or "frontline" communities can make the most of their vote by using it to build community power.

Candlelight Vigil for Victims of anti-LGBTQ BullyingVigil candle
Thursday, October 14
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Loring Park, Downtown Minneapolis

Recent suicides of youth in Minnesota and across the country have shocked us. These suicides of Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgender, questioning or queer youth did not occur in a vacuum. Many of these teens reported being bullied for being or perceived as LGBTQ. Visible and vocal allies play a vital role in making schools safer for all, regardless of orientation or gender identity. We will stand together to demonstrate we are allies for those who have been bullied and vow to create safe school environs for all.
