Minnesotans Standing Together: A Multifaith Prayer Service for RespectTuesday, Sept. 28 *this evening*7:00 - 8:00 pmCentral Lutheran Church333 12th Street South, Minneapolis Free parking in the adjacent ramp and lot
Please join us and many other religious groups and faith leaders for Minnesotans Standing Together:
A Multi-faith Prayer Service for Respect. Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, UUs and others will unite for a
multi-faith prayer for respect for the many ways that citizens of the state profess their religious beliefs. In this time of heightened
religious divisions and heavy media
coverage of religious bigotry, we invite you to attend this important community-wide, interfaith event. Minnesota Valley UU's Rev. David Breeden will be among the service leaders.
350.org's 10/10/10 Global Work Party Weekend 1) Renew your sole! Saturday, Oct. 9th 1:00 - 2:00 pm Shoe-A-New 2315 Hennepin Ave S, Minneapolis
In connection with 350.org's 10/10/10 Global Work Party
for the environment, MUUSJA is campaigning for UUs save
soles! A pair of leather shoes uses 8,000 liters of water and plenty
of carbon-based energy to produce. So hang onto a pair of shoes with solid uppers that need a new sole. Come drop them off at Shoe-A-New on Saturday the 9th.
We'll be there charting all the water and carbon saved, and the store will offer 10% off to UUs and friends!
Please note that the store
closes at 2pm on Saturdays. Or go local! This locator will help you find a shoe repair store near you.
2)

3) 10/10/10 Work Parties all across Minnesota, and beyond Visit the information page of 350.org's Global Work Party to find actions in Duluth, Fargo-Moorhead, Hibbing, Bemidji, and all around the world! This weekend is all about showing politicians and opinion leaders that citizens everywhere care about the climate and are willing to dig in and work to reverse dangerous trends in green house gasses. Join in where ever you are!

Save the date! HIRE Minnesota is winning real change in how public dollars impact employment for women, people of color, and low-income communities. HIRE continues to challenge Mn/DOT to meet it's goals, is focusing on the nearly $1 billion dollars being invested by the Met Council in light rail, and continues to search for opportunities for green jobs to help lift communities out of poverty. Meeting details in the next Connection.

MUUSJA Working Groups
MUUSJA EcoMinds meets on Tuesday, October 12, 7-8:30 pm at First Universalist Church. We'll debrief the 10/10/10 weekend, dig into our mission statement a bit more, and continue to help HIRE MN work on green jobs.
Voting Rights is helping prepare a report on a survey of County
Attorneys regarding ineligible voting and recommendations for policy,
expected to be published before the next MN legislative session. Voting Rights reminds everyone to vote November 2nd, and to participate in Get Out the Vote activities in your communities. Next meeting TBA/post-election. UUs Out for Marriage supported a recent OutFront People of Faith event at First Unitarian Society, and urges everyone to sign on as a marriage supporter. The goal is 50,000 Minnesota supporters before the 2011 session starts! We'll be announcing future People of Faith marriage equality events soon. Sacred Choices has started planning for their annual, much anticipated inter-generational movie night.
The MUUSJA board meets on Thursday, October 14, 7:00pm at First Unitarian Society. All are welcome to join our monthly conversation!
E-mail Ralph to find out more about our campaigns or to get connected to our volunteer leaders. Everyone is welcome. Many more events that our working group partner organizations host each month are on our facebook page and on MUUSJA's home page, too.

White guys for racial equity!
Click image for photo album | It's a provocative name, and it's a new, ad-hoc group standing up for equity in employment. The first public action was August 26th, at Mn/DOT's headquarters.
Over 40 fairness-minded white guys - including at least 6 UUs - showed up with a $4 million "check" that they wanted to refund to Mn/DOT, representing the money that should have gone to people of color and women, if Mn/DOT contracts had met their goals for minority hiring.
These clever white guys also brought bags of "cash" in case Mn/DOT wouldn't take a check! Watch the fun YouTube video to see these white guys in action! If you want to be in the know for possible future White Guy mobilizations, join their facebook page.
People of all colors and genders are urged to join with MUUSJA in supporting HIRE Minnesota in a broad-based coalition for employment equity.
