Greetings!
Today was Pro Choice Lobby Day at the Minnesota Capitol and UUs joined in to "raise our voice for choice!" We also delivered 120 postcards - signed at the Shelby Knox event - to let legislators and the Governor see our Unitarian Universalist values in action and know of our strong support for comprehensive sex education in our schools.
Sex education month from the UUA Office of Advocacy & Witness continues through the end of March. We hope you took advantage of Sexuality Education Call-In Days from our last Connection. It's not too late to contact your U.S. and Minnesota representatives with your support for age-appropriate, medically accurate sexuality education. The UUA has an excellent Issue Brief to help you write or call.
Connecting local UUs to larger movements for justice is central to the work of MUUSJA. Supporting this work is now simpler than ever: we've added online donation capability. The button is just to the right, and also on our membership page at muusja.org. If you prefer, you may still make or renew your contribution at any time by check, in person at a MUUSJA event, or by mail. We look forward to seeing you at 1 o'clock this Sunday, March 29th for MUUSJA's Spring Meeting keynoted by Louis J. King, President of Summit Academy and co-chair of H.I.R.E. Minnesota. Louis offers an important message about green jobs with justice and he invites all UUs to join with thousands of economic and environmental advocates at the capitol on Monday, April 20th. Come hear how we can share in the community effort to ensure that the green economy benefits everyone. We will conduct some brief business, release our annual report, and celebrate our issue group successes. See you soon! In faith,
Ralph Wyman

State Advocacy Networks: UU moral voices in the public arena
|
 |
Minnesota is one of a dozen US states to have a UU State Advocacy Network. You know it as...MUUSJA!
But what does it mean to be a State Advocacy Network? Well, like so many things that UUs do - it depends! Each state's network is a bit different. Some have staff, some are all volunteer. Some state's networks have to span two or three districts, others may be inside a district with multiple states.
Some networks focus on health care, some on water justice, many focus on LGBT equality, or on climate change. Most focus on just a small handful of issues at a time to be targeted and effective.
All these Networks have one thing in common: UU State Networks exist to be a public voice for UU values.
The public arena is where crucial decisions are made every day. By educating, mobilizing and organizing the collective wisdom and passion of UUs, we can and do have impacts on public policy - helping move towards the just world we wish to inhabit.
UU networks stay in regular contact with each other, and our partners at the UUA and the UUSC. We work together as often as possible to increase our impact on our common issues.
MUUSJA encourages you to find out more. You can find links to each of the UU State Networks through a single home page: UU State Advocacy Networks.
Take a look! See the good that California, Maryland, Washington state, Florida and others are doing!
This is one way MUUSJA connects you to larger movements for social change.
