We are moving Minnesota UU social justice efforts forward in
2009!
YOU are invited to join the first ever conference call of UUs
from around Minnesota who are interested in working together for social
justice.
The Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Alliance -
your UU social justice organization in Minnesota - will host
and facilitate regular conference calls as one of several ways we "bring
Minnesota UUs together to work collectively for social change". We
hope you can be on the call!
The purposes of regular conference calls will be to:
- connect UUs across the state
who are interested in working together for social justice
- build relationships and community
across our congregations,
- exchange information about what
is working and how we can strengthen each others' work
- increase the power and
effectiveness of UU social justice efforts
- continue to build and
strengthen a social justice organization in Minnesota that brings our UU moral voice to critical social justice issues
- deepen our connections with
social justice efforts of the UUA, UUSC, and other partners and coalitions
who share our values, vision, and goals.
Mark your calendar now and plan to join this fun,
informative, and inspiring phone conversation with UUs from around Minnesota:
DATE Sunday, February 1, 2009
TIME 7:00 - 8:00pm
Here's how to connect to the call:
Dial (712) 432-1630, and when prompted, enter code
564319#. Please note that
this IS a long distance call anywhere in Minnesota (712 is
Iowa). We explored setting up a toll-free number, but cost was a
barrier. We set the call time in part for the many folks who are likely
to have 'free' weekend cell phone minutes. Helping us avoid toll-free line
expense will be a helpful contribution from each of you to all of us.
Your call hosts, Sammy and Ralph, will be on the line. It
may be a bit hectic for the first couple of minutes as people join the call,
say "hello" and get comfortable with the sound and technology. Be ready
to
go with the flow and please be ready to say your name, town and
congregation when we do the introduction go-round.
The first MUUSJA conference call will
feature one of the four "issue working
groups" of MUUSJA - the group working on
environmental issues, especially combating global warming and working
for green jobs with economic justice. This working group is called
UU Eco-Minds, and at this point has an organizing & steering committee of close
to two dozen UUs from 8 congregations -
we hope to grow participation
from around the state!
