Fall is a great time to get back working in the garden. Perennials can be easily dug up, moved and divided. New shrubs and plants can be tucked into empty spots. I have decided to plant more ornamental grasses this Fall since they are not only beautiful and provide lots of movement and texture in the garden but are tough and drought tolerant. I am in love with the Japanese Silver Grass.

It is also an excellent time to overseed your lawn. General Seed (our Canadian Grass Seed supplier) has developed a wonderful Deluxe Overseed Mix that includes a brand new patented lateral spread perennial ryegrass. This is great news for those struggling with their lawns this summer. It is quick to germinate and has high wear tolerance. You can read more details below.

Fall is also an excellent time to plant spring bulbs. We have some beautiful choices here at the garden centre as well as many deer resistant varieties.

LAWN OWNERS CELEBRATE

Brand new to the home lawn market - Lateral Spread Perennial Ryegrass.

General Seed is the first to introduce this great new tough grass. It is able to withstand wear and tear and has the ability to self repair in heavy traffic areas. It has a deep dark green colour and fine leaf texture. The lateral spread characteristic means it spreads horizontally therefore filling in bare spots quickly. Germination rates of ryegrass are usually 5-6 days.It also requires a lower seeding rate. This seed is patented and not available in commercial big box store brands of seed.

Every spring we have customers coming in asking for tulip and daffodil bulbs to plant. Spring is when we see and fall in love with many beautiful bulbs. They are a splash of colour in our gardens after a long winter. The problem is that we don't always think about spring in the Fall. If you want to enjoy tulips, daffodils, alliums, muscari, and snowdrops next year then get out in your garden now and plant them.

You won't regret it!

Here are some new interesting bulbs we have brought in this season.

Blue Aimable Tulip

This late flowering tulip is a beautiful lavender blue. Grows 24". Beautiful grown with Yellow daffodils.

Allium 'Fireworks'

We first saw this funky allium mix at one a tour of one of our great customers Larry Fry's garden 2 years ago. We have been searching for it ever since. June flowering, it's 'fireworks' blossoms seem to burst out of the garden in a stunning colour splash. ( I love the yellow). Grows 12-18"

Muscari 'Pink Sunrise'

Brand new. Soft pink. Breakthrough colour. Beautiful paired with white 'Bridal Crown' Daffodils. Grows 6"

Bridal Crown Narcissus

Creamy white double flowers with yellow accents. Early to mid spring, multiflowering, fragrant, Deer/squirrel resistant.

Grows 14".
