Have you ever seen a tree that is over 900 years old?

This Sitka Spruce takes 13 people holding hands to

surround it!

Last week I was lucky enough to travel to Haida Gwaii, a national park that is run jointly by the Haida Nation and Parks Canada. Located on the southern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands in northern BC, it is a remote and beautiful place. In 1987, the Haida stood up in a peaceful protest against the logging industry and the government to stop the logging of these huge magnificent trees that have graced their home for thousands of years. The logging companies were taking trees 2.2 times faster than at any other logging site. In '87 they were on a path to clear cut the ancient trees, surrounding the old Haida villages, that still existed on Lyell island.  And the logging companies were severely damaging the salmon rivers.   The Haida elders decided to take a stand.

I'm thankful they did because the chance to stand and touch a tree that old was truly a gift.

Peace and Plants,

Kelly

Nagota Kale

This compact traditional kale is lovely in the garden or containers. Turns deeper purple as the weather cools.
