Greetings!

Hi

I hope no one lost any plants in the weather over the week or so. Here at the garden centre we played it safe and moved all the perennials in for a few days while Mother Nature started feeling better again.

I would like to thank everyone who came to our Open House. I have to admit I was not expecting to see it as busy as it was. For all the customers and our employees who braved the rain, thank you. You contributed to a successful Open House/Mothers Day Saturday.

As far back as I can remember we have always had our Open House on the first Saturday in May. This year with the expansion to the old glass greenhouse and typically how the weather can be we though we would delay it to Mothers Day weekend to have a little more time to get everything in and set up. How'd you like this time change? Let me know - POLL QUESTIONS

Nicky in the Catnip
For those who might be looking, our herb bench is now well represented. One of our first herb customers for the catnip was happy to see it on the bench again this year. I hope he leaves some for the rest of you though!

WaterwiseI have two new products in that I'm really excited about. Automatic watering for your hanging baskets and planters. We have them in now and will put together some more information for the next email. This will make and keep your baskets looking fantastic right through the fall, and best of all, you can set it up yourself! If you click on the Water Wise picture you can watch a video on just how easy it really is.

The second system is from Basket Booster a Canadain company that is the first of it's kind. This system is self sufficient and only waters both hanging basket and planters when they are dry! WOW.
Come in and take a look.

Well it looks like we are free and clear of frost in the 5 day forecast. Lets hope we're done with it. This weekend looks great!

Thank you
Take care & see you this weekend!

There is nothing better than the gorgeous bursts of colour that liven up the landscapes in spring! If you are lacking spring colour in your garden then you need to drop out to the garden centre this week for our 'Riot of Colour Sale'! In celebration of spring we've put all lilacs on sale for 30% off. Here are some of the varieties we carry here at Gemmell's

Lilac Ludwig SpatheLudwig Spaeth

A French Hybrid Lilac that has beautiful, heavily fragrant reddish-purple to dark purple single blooms that open in late spring, extending the lilac season! An outstanding open branched, upright habit useful in mixed shrub borders or in mass plantings with other lilacs.

Zone 3 Mature 10' tall x 8' wide

Mme. Lemoine LilacLilac Mme L

A lovely columnar form of French lilac with intensely fragrant double white flowers. Flower clusters are very heavy and tend to weigh down the sturdy branches, making them easier to bury your nose in the soft petals and inhale the perfume. Doesn't tend to sucker like most other lilacs. Ideal as a cut flower and a single cluster can scent an entire room.  Zone 3 Mature: 8-10' tall x 8' wide

Belle De Nancy LilacLilac Belle de Nancy

features showy panicles of intensely fragrant double pink flowers which emerge from distinctive fuchsia flower buds. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Great for screening or hedging. Zone 2a Mature: 10' tall x 8' wide

Lilac Pres Lin
