Dear

Spring is definitely in the air today. Much better than the wind we got earlier in the week. I hope no one lost any trees or had damage to their yards.

In our last email we introduced our weekly Polling Question. We thank you for your quick click to help us with our advertizing. To satisfy your curiosity the results are at the bottom of the email. I would appreciate that extra click to help us in our planning at the garden centre.

This may come a little late for some of you but you can get in on our last Victorian Hanging Basket Workshop Saturday the 14th, details below. We have had some awesome creations by the workshop participants.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the workshops and if not then in the spring and as always we appreciate your business.

Take care, and have a terrific weekend!

All THE DIRT
I woke the other morning to the sound of birds chirping! Could it be that spring is just around the corner?  We just brought some gorgeous flowering gerbera daisies and mini roses into the retail store and it is nice to see some colour!

The greenhouse staff have been busy planting up all of our fabulous Victorian Hanging Baskets combinations. There are some new and interesting baskets this year with names like 'Sunny Lemonade', Toffee Twist', and 'Lobster Bisque' to name a few. Sounds like a tasty summer ahead!  Some of our Gemmell's Gardeners have been in this past weekend to plant up their own inspired ideas at our Victorian Hanging Basket Workshops which were held Saturday morning & afternoon, as well as Sunday. Everyone seemed to have a fantastic time and we can't wait to see the results in May.

We are still holding another set of workshops this weekend if anyone has spring fever.

Pesticide Ban for Ontatio Passes
We have just been informed that the Government of Ontario has passed legislation banning the use of pesticides for cosmetic use. Although a detailed list has yet to be provided to us here at Gemmell's, there are 80 different chemicals banned that are found in over 250 different products.  As a home owner you will no longer be allowed to apply any pesticides, fungicides or insecticides to treat your lawn, vegetables, ornamental gardens, patios or driveways. This, of course, includes products such as Round Up, Sevin, Fruit Tree Spray, Weed n' Feed, Malathion, Grub Out, even Safer's Insecticide which includes pyrethrins. This ban will be placed into effect on April 22, 2009. We still have a number of these products available for sale here at the Garden Centre until the ban takes effect. We here at Gemmell's support the government's intentions to protect the environment as well as its citizens but also understand gardener's need to use certain chemicals for specific problems. Please feel free to drop into the store if you need help navigating this new law and we will continue to keep you informed as the information is provided to us.

I hope you are enjoying our newsletter. As always we appreciate your input into how we can continue to improve in all aspects. If and when you have some input, I would love to hear it, good and not so good.

Sincerely,
