I've been enjoying some very productive time working in my studio. Emmy, our very old cat who think's she is human, often accompanies me there. Here is a glimpse of what has been going on in my studio lately:

Dallas Museum of Biblical Art
Acquires Art Piece...
I'm pleased to announce that my conceptual art piece titled, Open Door Policy, is being acquired by the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas for their permanent collection. The nationally recognized museum suffered a terrible loss of their fine art holdings in a fire in 2005. Since that devastating fire, they have rebuilt the museum and are scheduled to re-open in the fall of 2009 with a brand new collection of Biblical Themed artwork. Open Door Policy is a three dimensional interactive collage / assemblage where the viewer is invited to actually touch and open the antique door, revealing the collage tapestry of visions of heaven.

There's still time to order
your very own copy of
my new art book...
These bright peaches are on the cover of my new book, Eileen Downes...the artist who "paints" with bits of torn paper for a palette - selected works which is now available for purchase. The 55-page art book is a glossy, soft bound book filled with full-color photographs of my art from several series, including the Stepping-Up Series, American River Series, God's Wings Series, as well as seldom seen pieces from corporate and private collections. The book includes introspective essays about my work and the creative process written by famed New Zealand assemblage artist, Dale Copeland and local Sacramento author Ginny L. Yttrup.

Fabulous Art by 5th Graders...
Yes, that's right, great art created by some very talented children! I was pleased to discover that my collage painting technique had inspired a group of 5th grade artists at Kyrene School in Phoenix, Arizona to create some work using my style. Led by their art teacher, Ms Cassidy Parker, they researched my art on my website, www.eileendownes.com and studied the techniques involved in the collage medium.
I am so proud of their accomplishments!
Here are just two of their creations, but check out the work by the whole class by clicking here:
