The morning air is crisp and cool as Autumn weather comes upon us. I just love this time of year, and enjoy the brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows of the changing leaves. I have been very busy in the studio these days, and I would like to share with you what has been going on:
This is a close-up of a tiny portion of a very large custom commissioned collage painting that I recently finished for a client. It is a "landscape portrait" of his lovely country property, capturing the beauty of this season. You can learn more about commissioning a piece for yourself by visiting my website: http://www.eileendownes.com/ordercustomart.html |
Artwork unveiled at
Kaiser Modesto Hospital
October 1, 2008
4601 Dale Road (corner of Kierman and Dale) Modesto, California 95350

Artist: Eileen Downes
Title: Green Converse (Stepping-Up Series, collection of Kaiser)
Medium: Collage
Size: 18" x 24"
The newly built Kaiser Modesto Hospital is an outstanding example of environmentally friendly "green design" architecture built to compliment the surrounding agricultural landscape.
Fittingly, my collage artwork is also "green" in a sense; I use recycled torn magazine papers as my palette of paint - magazines that would otherwise be piling up in our landfills.
It was a pleasure to create all ten of these collage paintings specially for the entry wall area of the hospital's labor and delivery floor. The theme of the artwork embraces the "family" as it indulges the viewer with whimsical imagery of mommy's shoes, daddy's shoes, sporty shoes, dressy shoes, and children's shoes of every kind.

Limited Edition Prints
from my God's Wings Series
are now available from the
North American Butterfly Association
Artist: Eileen Downes
Title: Blessed Wings (God's Wings Series)
Medium: Collage (Signed Limited Edition Giclee Print)
Size: 16" x 20"
I am very pleased to announce that I have released three special images as Signed Limited Edition Giclee Prints to be available through The North American Butterfly Association (NABA) which is the largest not-for-profit organization in North America dedicated to increase public enjoyment and conservation of butterflies. NABA is credited with working to save butterfly species throughout North America (recent grants have helped endangered Schaus' Swallowtails in Florida) and developing educational programs about butterflies for schools, park rangers and naturalists. All purchases from the NABA site will support, in part, their efforts to help butterfly populations and bring about increased awareness of the unique role butterflies play in our lives.

Favorite Artist quote of the week:
"In our life there is a single color, as on an artist's palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love." Marc Chagall
