Artistic Greetings...
The Summer air in California is hot and smokey due to the numerous forest fires we have been having across the state. Many thanks and best wishes go out to our fine fire fighters who have been working so hard to stop the destruction of our lovely landscape.  I've been creating indoors where the air is cool and less smokey, so here's what has been going on in my studio lately:

The piece above is a collage of found papers, acrylic paint, and tinted bees' wax. It has a companion piece titled, The X-Man, and I have included photos of both pieces here. I wish I could have been at the opening reception, but that would have been quite a long trip for me.

Personal Collector Stories
I would like to share one of my favorite collector stories with you.  Several years ago I was having an exhibition in New Zealand, and a collector purchased one of my collage paintings from the series titled: What if the Post Office Could Deliver Leaves?  It was a colorful, whimsical piece made from used postage stamps embellished with my pen and ink drawings of oak leaves.  Now typically, I write thank you notes to all of my collectors, but this time the buyer wrote one to me!  She thanked me for making the artwork, and to my delight and surprise she included in the envelope two real autumn-colored leaves from her own yard in New Zealand!  This time the post office did indeed, deliver leaves.  The colorful leaves fluttered to the floor of my studio, and are still tacked up on my bulletin board with her note - an inspiration for me to create some more.

Favorite Artist quote of the week:
"all in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world."                                       Marcel Duchamp
