Panel: Sustaining Regional Meat Production-From Pasture to Home and Restaurant Kitchens

Rolling New York pastures have been the grazing land for beef, dairy cows and other livestock for centuries; but New York City is only recently developing an appetite for "pastured" meat and poultry. Farm Bill 1.07

The Risky Business of Farming

A local farmer once said, "a farmer who can't stand losing a crop once in a while is no kind of farmer... farming is a risky business." Echoing this belief, President Obama, in his design for the 2012 Farm Bill, has taken on commodity subsidies and crop insurance. In in this continuation of FSNYC's Farm Bill Series, Ed Yowell and Abby Youngblood discuss federal crop insurance and disaster assistance- fundamental parts of our nation's "farm safety net,"- in the wake of disasters, like tropical storms Irene and Lee.

Finger Imaging and SNAP Benefits
Why does NYC insist upon finger printing food stamp applicants? In her article Stigmatizing Hunger Gabrielle Blavatsky analyses this flawed policy that is costing New Yorkers millions in forgone federal dollars.
