Panel: Sustaining Regional Meat Production-From Pasture to Home and Restaurant Kitchens
Rolling New York pastures have been the grazing land for beef, dairy cows and other livestock for centuries; but New York City is only recently developing an appetite for "pastured" meat and poultry. What is the outlook for getting this product from New York farms to professional and home kitchens? Can happy cows keep our farmers and chefs smiling...and vice versa?? Our panelists will talk about animals, taste, infrastructure, regulation, and of course, economics. How do we get this industry to grow? Join us!
The discussion will be moderated by Bob Lewis, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Panelists will include: Ken Jaffe, Slope Farms; East Meredith, NY Jim Hayes, Sap Bush Hollow Farm, NE Livestock Processing Service Co. Mary Cleaver, The Green Table and Cleaver Co. In in this continuation of FSNYC's Farm Bill Series, Ed Yowell and Abby Youngblood discuss federal crop insurance and disaster assistance- fundamental parts of our nation's "farm safety net,"- in the wake of disasters, like tropical storms Irene and Lee. Finger Imaging and SNAP Benefits
