Real Farm Bill Stories: Farm School NYC

The 2008 Farm Bill provided funding for a number of nutritional and developmental initiatives that may now be on the budgetary chopping block. Ed Yowell writes about the story of one success, Farm School NYC, a program that was able to get started with the help of Farm Bill funding.

Edible Schoolyard BKFood Detective: Edible Schoolyard Brooklyn

Our resident Food Detective, Stephanie Miller, explores the one-year-old Edible Schoolyard in Brooklyn, the first of its kind in New York City. An initiative that is planning to expand to showcase schools in the remaining four boroughs by the end of the year. Since its inception, the program has become a model for school gardens and healthy eating curricula for schools nationwide. Read all about it and consider starting an edible garden at your school!

Piggy in VideoVideo: Back to the Start

This animated video, created to promote the newly-launched Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, "depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future." The Foundation was created with the goals of supporting family farms, providing food education, and promoting awareness of the importance of sustainable agriculture.
