 Tomato Fest at the New Amsterdam Market

Ice Cream Too!

Join us this Sunday, August 22nd, Noon to 3 p.m., for the Food Systems Network's Tomato Fest at the New Amsterdam Market!
Tomatoes are being supplied by farmers and purveyors from the market, including the Queens County Farm Museum, Zone 7, Basis Foods and more.

Taste and compare fifteen varieties of tomatoes. Sample heirloom tomato comfit by Chef/Owner of Inatteso Eric Lind, heirloom tomato salad with cucumber, juniper & pumpernickle by Chef Meg Grace of The Red Head, and other dishes by restaurants including Harry's Italian Pizza Bar. Bid on tomatoes, dinner at The Green Table, Provision's Stone House Oil and Vinegar and more in the Silent Auction.

The New Amsterdam Market will also feature an Artisan Ice Cream Tasting to benefit The New Amsterdam Market

Born Again Omnivores, Part 2 
 
In this continuation of his piece on those returning to omnivory, Ed Yowell discusses the environmental impacts of meat consumption, and how grass-fed meat can be kinder to the planet as well as to the animals involved. 
Join Us For a Taste of Pig Island 
 
Saturday, October 2 will mark the return of Jimmy Carbone of Jimmy's No. 43 to Governor's Island.  His event, known as Pig Island, will feature 20 NYC chefs preparing 60 pigs purchased from Violet Hill Farm, The Piggery, and Heritage Meats.  For more on this day of delicious food, local beer and wine, and live entertainment see Viktoriya Syrov's article.
