Working Together for Minot Recovery
 | |
As the water recedes, we will continue to send our trucks filled with necessary supplies. |
We extend our appreciation to the thousands of individuals, businesses and churches who, along with Feeding America - the nation's food bank network, other food banks in the region and food industry donors have donated food items, personal care products and cleaning supplies for those in the Minot region impacted by record breaking flooding. In addition, our hats are off to the hundreds of volunteers who have demonstrated their passion sorting and packaging items for distribution to those in need. We have heard and seen the gratitude expressed by individuals and families displaced or impacted by this crisis, as well as the shelter and feeding programs assisting them. Thank you for partnering with us in this important work.
We will be distributing cleaning supplies during the clean-up and rebuilding phase, and providing additional supplies to food pantries and other charitable feeding programs that are expected to see increased demand for a prolonged period of time due to the financial hardships experienced because of the devastation. We estimate that by the time this crisis is done, more than 20 semi-loads of product (well over half-a million pounds) will be distributed. Disaster relief is part of our core business and we are committed to assisting in all possible ways through the duration.

Hunger Summit Coming to Fargo
Last year 1 in 11 North Dakotans sought emergency food assistance through the charitable feeding network supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank; 40 percent of these were children. At the Taking Action to End Hunger Summit, September 20th and 21st in Fargo you are invited to come together with other people who want to learn about hunger relief resources, gain a better understanding of the barriers people face in obtaining food and food assistance, and, for those who work in hunger relief programs, take in training/skill-building. An exciting part of this conference is that the energy created will not end when we walk out the door after the last session. An exciting part of this conference is that the energy created will not walk out the door after the last session. Our National Partner
As an affiliate of the Feeding America food bank network, the Great Plains Food Bank is a member of the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization. Through Feeding America's relationship with national food suppliers, the Great Plains Food Bank receives tremendous supplies of food aiding in our distribution to partner agencies and providing a greater mix of product. In addition, Feeding America provides food banks with operational standards, training, and technical support - ensuring we operate at the highest level of efficiency. Together with the other 200 Feeding America food bank affiliates, we educate the public and government officials in the United States, bringing a voice and national response to those living with or at risk of hunger.
