Impacting Lives
ODonnellsLinda and Jeff are spirited, adventurous and have a great sense of humor.  They were empty nesters when they took a friend's offer of a job and a place to stay if they moved from MN to CA.  "When we got there what we got was a newspaper route and his garage which hadn't been cleaned for over 19 years!" Jeff says.  Making the best of their new adventure Linda and Jeff worked odd jobs to make ends meet.  When they decided to leave CA they turned to their friends to find another adventure.  This time they landed in Fargo where they both retired. Struggling to make it with their social security benefits the two sought assistance to help them with their limited food budget.  When Linda and Jeff connected with the Great Plains Food Bank they got more than a list of food pantries, they got an advocate who walked them through the SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) application process.  "The SNAP Specialist made us feel good, and made it very easy for us to go through everything and get benefits." Linda says. "We didn't expect that someone would do so much for us,"

K.I.D.S. Working for Kids
K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations) takes the lead in orchestrating donations of children's items with a unique group of retailers and manufacturers. As the ND affiliate, the Great Plains Food Bank provide tens of thousands of new items such as clothing, toys and winter apparel secured from corporations such as Toys R Us, American Girl, Gymboree and Disney.  Last year these items were valued at more than $1.4 million dollars, but the smiles they put on children's faces were priceless.

650,000 Servings of Pasta
pastaEarlier this year the Minot Sunrise Rotary Club in partnership with Dakota Growers Pasta Company and Philadelphia Macaroni Company donated enough money to provide pasta for every single person in the state, or roughly 650,000 servings.  The pasta is made with durum grown by North Dakota farmers and will be distributed by the Great Plains Food Bank to our charitable feeding network across North Dakota.  Thank you for your generous donation.

Providing Nutritious Food Every Day

March is National Nutrition Month, an education and information campaign promoting healthy eating.  The Great Plains Food Bank is a reliable source of healthy foods for low-income families, recovering an average of 1.5 million pounds of fresh produce every year. Those at risk of hunger often cannot afford preventative and follow-up healthcare services which why access to nutritious foods helps to maintain good health and is vital for this population, especially children and the elderly.  Join us now and make a difference in the lives of those who need us most.
