1.4 Million Meals Provided
Daily Bread logoDaily Bread, a perishable food recovery program serving individuals and families in Cass and Clay counties recovers food for more than one million meals that would otherwise go uneaten. Surplus food is collected daily from area restaurants, hotels, caterers, schools and hospitals.  Supermarkets donate surplus quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy products, baked goods and deli selections that are still wholesome and nutritious, but are nearing the end of their shelf life.  Once recovered this product is delivered to shelters, soup kitchens and pantries serving the hungry and homeless.  The GPFB operates a similar program in the Bismarck-Mandan community. For more information on this unique program click here.

Bremer check
The Great Plains Food Bank was awarded a $100,000 grant by the Otto Bremer Foundation to address unmet hunger needs and fill existing gaps in service for the estimated 82,500 children, seniors and working individuals who live with, or are at risk of hunger in North Dakota annually.  With this award, the GPFB will expand our existing food recovery efforts, extend our food distribution reach, build capacity at our partner feeding programs and continue to strengthen the collaboration between the charitable feeding network and federal nutrition programs. In addition, during its fifth annual Taking Action Against Hunger campaign, Bremer Banks raised $6,353 providing 31,766 meals.  Employees also collected food and volunteered at the Food Bank. "Our employees are committed and passionate about ending hunger in our communities," said Brian Hagen, market manager of Bremer Bank in Fargo.  "This campaign has really become something our employees and clients look forward to each year. We are always amazed at the generosity and spirit of staff and clients that help us in our effort to raise money to end hunger."

End Childhood Hunger:  Act Now
The Great Plains Food Bank works every day to alleviate child hunger in North Dakota and western Minnesota. This year, Congress is considering a child nutrition bill that authorizes several of the programs operated within our network, including summer and afterschool programs that ensure vulnerable children are fed even when school is out. With nearly a quarter of our nation's children struggling with hunger, this legislation could not come at a more critical time. The GPFB, in partnership with Feeding America, the nation's food bank network is working to pass a strong bill this summer. You can help by sending a letter to your Member of Congress. Learn more
